State Department Spokesperson Marie Harf told Chris Matthews tonight that we cannot win this war with ISIS by killing them. She said we have to get to the root cause of why people are attracted to Jihad — you know like poverty, jobs, etc…
“We’re killing a lot of them and we’re going to keep killing more of them. So are the Egyptians, so are the Jordanians. They’re in this fight with us. But we cannot win this war by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war. We need in the medium to longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it’s lack of opportunity for jobs…”

If poverty and jobs are the cause of jihad, then poor Christians, poor Jews, poor Buddhists, poor atheists, poor Taoists, etc, would all be expected to engage in “holy war”. Instead, it’s only the Muslims. How hard is it to see the common denominator?!?

I sympathize with that sentiment, but you can’t send missionaries into a warzone. We would need to utterly defeat them first, destroy their will to fight, and then occupy them to protect the missionaries until we could be sure that the change would stick.
It’s not even like we are talking about “denazification”, since the Germans had only been living under that ideology for less than a generation, and not all of them had ever supported it. These guys have been living under this ideology for centuries, and it dominates their whole cultural identity.
Maybe we should pummel the state department with Clauswitz and Sun Tsu, some other material they’ve never read...

Nope. Too many would realize everything they believed was wrong. Allah would not allow infidels to obliterate the muslims’ most holiest site on earth. They believe this is impossible and allah would never allow it.
