Its hard to say if its an exaggeration. Depends on what she heats with, how warm she keeps her house, insulation etc.

Mine will be around $300 if it stays cold like this for long. I use propane and have 2 of the electric oil filled radiator type heaters.

We peaked at 5 today around 11 a.m. and temps went down from there. -7 now with -32 wind chill according to weather channel interactive.

Actual temp going down to -15 tonight. Who knows how low the wind chill will get.

This is why I’m on a budget plan with the gas company. My monthly bill is $89

Two adults and two teen agers in my house, that tends to elevate bills too.

For instance, when my (adopted) kids first moved in about 7 years ago, the first increase I noticed was that our water bill doubled. All other bills went up but not doubled.

By the way, they are well worth the extra expense - best investment ever.

Food for thought: Today it was warmer on Mars than it was here.

I don’t know whether 600 is outrageous or not. A lot depends on where she lives, the utility (gas can be more expensive than electric for example) or the size and age of the house (older houses usually aren’t insulated, have inefficient furnaces and windows). Perhaps the lady should have question the bill with her utility company, maybe have a representative come out to test for some problem with the line or something. The rep could look over the house and make suggestions on how to save on heating bills.

My house was built in 1961. I have a new energy efficient furnace and relatively new energy efficient windows. Lowered the gas bill considerably.

I’ve used a full tank so far, sure hope they make it out
to fill it tomorrow. Will come to $ about 900 for the
year.
May have to move the wood stove from the shop into the
house, if the EPA will let me..haheeehee.

I’m down to about 20% now. The furnace usually only runs for a couple of hours during the night as long as there’s no wind. I still need to call and have them come fill the tank.

Mine hit zero on Friday I’m surprised it’s still
burning, can’t last much longer, going to curl up
with three dogs, got the heaters turned as low as
they’ll go, at least propane isn’t as high as last
year.

Why, yes, you know I’ll query the EPA and get their
sign off.......NOT.

When the government can tell me how to keep warm
it’s gone too far.....too too far.

I’m still evaluating Al Gore’s and the climate fraud trio of Doctors Jones, Hansen, and Mann statement that children will be growing up in the Northern United States never having ever seen snow. Just wondering if that comes before or after the 20 foot rise in the oceans?

The heat is out again in my building.

Has been all day. No sign of the landlord.

Have a small Broan electric space heater working. Without it I’d be frozen solid. Its so cold here where I am just outside Boston. The wind is evil tonight.

“That is probably a better explanation than Al Gore’s.”

His explanation is filled with double-talk about saving the earth, carbon credits, carbon choking the earth, and taxes, taxes, taxes, taxes and more taxes.

IMHO

I’m so sorry. I don’t suppose you can go somewhere warm. Probably a stupid suggestion since there is so much snow making travel difficult.

I will pray your landlord can be located and get the furnace fixed quickly.

I looked on Orbitz for short three day trips to Florida. I have never been but just the idea of having sunshine for a few days...

But, its more than I can afford.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, friend.

"the warming is so far manifesting itself more in winters which are less cold than in much hotter summers. According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”. “Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said"
