WV Federation of Democratic Women start petition to urge GOP lawmaker to resign

A West Virginia Republican delegate previously scrutinized for his comments on a child that could come from rape has been called on to resign.

The West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women created a petition on change.org calling on the lawmakers resignation.

The petition explains that Delegate Brian Kurcaba, R-Monongalia, does “not represent West Virginia women and does not understand the mental anguish a woman goes through when sexually assaulted.”

Kurcaba made the comments during a hearing in the House of Delegates Feb. 5 on a bill that would attempt to ban a woman from having an abortion performed after 20 weeks.

During the hearing, Kurcaba said "obviously rape is one of the most egregious acts anyone can ever do to someone ... but what is beautiful is the child that could come as a production of that."

Kurcaba issued a statement after the comments, saying he apologized to “anyone who took my comments about the sanctity of human life to mean anything other than that all children are precious regardless of circumstances.”

He said it was “unfortunate that the only portions of my statement were publicized resulting in misrepresentation. As always, I will ensure that my focus continues to be on making West Virginia a better place to create jobs and raise a family.”

Since the WVFDW created the petition Feb. 7, 281 people have “virtually” signed it, with several signers leaving comments as to their personal reasons.

I would issue a statement in a similar vein that liberals do when republican groups demand they step down.

First, damage the groups’ character. Label them extremist fringes who obviously have jumped on the chance to take my comments out of context so they can use it as a pretext to demand I step down.

And go on using the liberal template from there. Adamantly state I’m not resigning and I will fight back against any attacks from fringe liberal groups to attempt to shame my long record of working for women. Working for women doesn’t automatically mean unborn children have to die. This fringe group of bloodlusting liberal women cannot handle this truth and that’s why they’re coming after me. Nobody can offer an alternative in their mind, or even put forth the idea that a human life, even created through a terrible criminal act, is worthless and the only option is to get rid of it. This zero-tolerance, broad-brush, knee-jerk reaction the left has doesn’t fit with the morals of today. They want only one solution - kill the baby. That somehow is the only course that makes things better. Anyone else who could possibly see value in that human life, they cannot tolerate anyone who says that. Hence the viciousness of their attack on me.

That’s the kind of response that must be taken any and every time we are put under attack.

He should tell them to go back to working their street corners; they’ll make more money there than servicing the democrat party.

The news reports all include ellipses ...

Just for the record, the full quote was: “Obviously, rape is one of the most egregious acts that anybody can ever do to somebody. It’s awful. For somebody to take advantage of somebody else in such a horrible and terrifying and brutal way is absolutely disgusting. But what is beautiful is the child that could come as a production of this.”

Inserting the ellipses changes the meaning. It makes it look like he said ‘oh sure rape is bad but what beautiful babies it makes’ If the full quote is included, he could not have been clearer about his absolute condemnation of rape.

Would I have prefered he said something like ‘But every individual child is beautiful, no matter the circumstances of their conception’? Yes. But I have the benefit of proofreading, and he was speaking off the cuff.

Fundamentally, I don’t know what he said that any reasonable person could object to. Even if one believes that a woman should have the personal choice of abortion in the case of rape, would anyone really say that a child born out of such circumstances is not beautiful?

Kurcaba is one of my state representatives. I voted for him in November and plan to vote for him in November 2016.

"The petition explains that Delegate Brian Kurcaba, R-Monongalia, does “not represent West Virginia women"

Note to The West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women:

Kurcaba got elected, so he DOES represent West Virginia women. YOU harpies did NOT get elected, so STFU.
