I recall right after Katrina, I saw a FANTASTIC photo-documentary on the internet taken by a student from Columbia who lived and attended college in NOLA.
This kid and his friends rode out the storm and stayed in their high rise for a day or two before starting a journey to the superdome. He had pics and detailed captions for everything he witnessed. It would have made a fantastic picture book.
He showed pics of the so called prime-time “journalists” doing their news stories and said he heard them BLATANTLY LYING about what was going on! It seems like BW was one of the journalists.
This kid said he had aspired to be a photo-journalist up to that point, but was immediately disgusted with what he saw playing out. He managed to snap pics of the super-dome from a distance and realized it was NOT where they needed to be. Somehow they managed to get out of NOLA without having to be rescued by the military.
This was the best photo documentary I saw of Katrina and strangely, it was up for only a day and disappeared off the internet. I still wonder what happened to it. It was on Flickr.
