John Kitzhaber must resign: Editorial (The Oregonian)
The Oregonian ^ | 2/4/15 | The Oregonian Editorial Board

"I'm not going to consider resigning," said Gov. John Kitzhaber at a disastrous press conference held Friday following revelations about the apparently borderless world of public policy and private gain in which he and fiancée Cylvia Hayes exist. "I was elected by the people of this state to do a job, and I intend to do it."

No doubt, the governor does intend to do the job Oregonians gave him, which, simply put, is to pursue the interests of his constituents. That intention, however, is no match for an ugly reality of his own making, whose sordid elements keep surfacing with dispiriting regularity, most recently this week thanks to the work of Nick Budnick and Laura Gunderson of The Oregonian/OregonLive. Two people involved in Kitzhaber's 2010 campaign helped Hayes find paid work with groups interested in Oregon policy, Budnick and Gunderson reported. Both have landed in Kitzhaber's administration. Oregonian editorials

More ugliness may surface, but it should be clear by now to Kitzhaber that his credibility has evaporated to such a degree that he can no longer serve effectively as governor. If he wants to serve his constituents he should resign. To recite every reported instance in which Hayes, ostensibly under Kitzhaber's watchful eye, has used public resources, including public employee time and her "first lady" title, in pursuit of professional gain would require far more space than we have here and, besides, repeat what most readers already know. Suffice it to say there's a pattern, and the person who bears the responsibility for allowing it to form and persist is Kitzhaber, who should know better. After all, as he pointed out during Friday's press conference, he's been serving in public office on and off since the 1970s.

You know, it's almost as if "Clean energy" is just a giant graft machine for the politically connected.

So. No mention of political persuasion anywhere in the excerpt....I’m assuming he’s a Democrat?

Ugh. Oh, really? It's this kind of hyperbole that completely discredits the writer.

John Kitzhaber resigning?

Only if he’s caught in bed with Client 9.

This is huge revelation, as the Oregonian newspaper is a big time liberal rag that always supports 'rat politicians.

I'll make some popcorn and see where this goes.

Leave it to the biased media. If Oregon’s governor was a Republican, every mention of his name would be presented as: “Republican Gov. John Kitzhaber”, but since he’s a Democrat they refuse to make sure everyone knows it.

You do know what he said is first up for his 4th term? New more restrictive gun laws!!

All of this was known during the campaign, the press would not report it, now its an issue? After he is elected for his 8th through 12th years of graft and corruption!

I know little about Oregon politics but I understand that the Lt. Governor is even farther to the left. So his resigning won’t stop the gun grabbers.

Kitzhaber won't resign.

The state is completely owned by the public employee unions, and Kitzhaber is their stooge.

OK, didn’t know that. But the commenters at the Oregonian website said that the successor should he resign is more to the left than he is.

Why should he resign? Idiot voters knew about this an reelected him anyway.

All it would accomplish is elevating Sec of State Kate Brown (D/Marxist) to Governor and giving her an incumbent’s leg up in the next election, which will otherwise be an open seat.

Heh. Some liberal rag is demanding the commie Governor they championed in the first place now “resign immediately” because he’s become an liability to the RATs.

I’m reminded of all the Chicago papers who told us how good we’d have it under Blago and then whined and complained that he wouldn’t step down once he embarrassed them.
