UPDATE: Motorists being advised to avoid downtown Atlanta.

A suspicious package found at the 14th Street bridge forced police to close the Downtown Connector shortly before 2 p.m. An hour later, it remained closed, forcing massive traffic backups on Atlanta interstates.

Dozens of drivers were stuck in place in both directions on I-75 and I-85, and others were advised to avoid the area. That is leading to backups on many cross streets through the city.

Avoiding downtown Atlanta is a good idea in general.

Of interest to you, perhaps. Doesn't matter, you are SO screwed anyway.

A suspicious package found

How big is this package exactly?

hope it gets cleared up soon. they did not say how big it was — being duct taped to wet cement does not sound like a very big package. it is so annoying that any prankster could tape an empty tube to a bridge and tie up a city.

Avoiding all major American cities is always a smart thing to do. Isn’t that an awful thing to have to say about America.

A suspicious "package" jams up a city for a whole day?

Good thing they didn't find a suspicious Home Depot appliance carton, it would tie up the whole state for a week.

My understanding is it’s a tube shaped object duct taped to the 17th Street overpass. I might be wrong about the street, but the duct taping is suspicious.

After being a city boy for 30 years I’ve moved my household to rural W. TN. Maybe the cities will be something than cesspools some time in the future, but probably not in my lifetime.

I have friends that pass by that bridge on their way home. Just passed them the info. They’ll just hit a local happy hour and wait for it all to (hopefully) clear.

‘Suspicious Packages’ Was a name someone proposed for a Gay Bar they wanted to build next to the Mosque the muslims insensitively wanted to plant next to Ground Zero in NYC.

Some self important idiots attached devices to bridges on Boston a few years back and they were surprised when people were pissed because all the roads were shut and bomb squads were deployed .
