Speaking of the people who forced this mandate on us, federal government fleet vehicles are subject to very rigid policies requiring use of alternative / renewable fuels. Except for when the nearest E85 or Biodiesel pump is fifteen or more miles away - in which case the Dept. Of Energy issues a waiver. Nice, huh?

He’s a good guy. The smaller actually benefitted during his “new investment” as he was out of their market.

I was at a meeting where Senator John Thune (R-SD) was speaking...Thune is a big ethanol advocate. One of the audience asked Sen. Thune why if corn ethanol is such a good thing, no farm machinery runs on E-85. You would think that farmers would demand farm machinery run on ethanol, yet none does. Sen Thune had no answer to this question. Corn ethanol is a boondoggle and is nothing but a big farm subsidy program. It would be cheaper if the government just wrote corn farmers a check every year.

At the Fort Campbell, KY Blanchfield Army Community Hospital (BACH) there a 5 or six handicapped parking spaces for vehicles specifically for flex fuel cars. Other cars who use regular gas and have handicapped license plates or cards that they hang on they mirror do too. The parking spaces are close to the Outpatient entrance of the Hospital. They have other handicapped parking spaces but they are farther away and if you have to use a cane like I have to it’s very hard

Don’t forget the other way ethanol subsidizes ag: Cheap high-protein animal feed. Production of pork, chicken and eggs is much cheaper than it would be without corn ethanol.

I can’t blame the farmers not wanting to use it. You get less gas mileage out of it than with just 10% Ethanol

Speaking of bicycles. I used to push my bicycle as a teenager down the hill because I was afraid the bike would flip over when I used the brakes. I rode it uphill as much as I could, then pushed the rest of the way up

you have to start somewhere, to fight OPEC.

of course, supporters of Exxon will disagree.

reducing demand for (pure-hydrocarbon)gasoline by
a few percent can make a big difference.

a better idea would be for the rest of the world
to go to E5 or E10.

OK, then: if there is in fact a glut of ethanol, as this article implies, why does E85 cost so freakin’ much?

The government subsidizes ethanol production. I do not know this for a fact, but I would not doubt your federal gas tax is doing the subsidizing. My guess is that you (we) paid for it up front.

Gasohol is another wealth redistribution scheme. Cost more money and pass it around. The Gruberment is always against free market capitalism common sense that should have been obvious to them long before this cat got loose.

Take all the surplus ethanol, bottle it and label it as Stolichnaya vodka. Then start dumping it on the world market until Putin agrees to end his ambitions in the Ukraine.

... its principal effect has been to cause skyrocketing land values in Iowa, while transferring money from the pockets of taxpayers and consumers to farmers and big ag conglomerates.

Actually, JMHO, it's all about the Iowa Caucus.

Move the Iowa Caucus (how could you, but just follow the argument), and watch the RFS garbage wither and die. Of course, it's a big crony-capitalist conspiracy (CCC) now, so it has a life of its own and is an Iron Triangle of interlocking interests. None of them ours, unfortunately.
