Always decline any invitation to use the shower facility.
The bottom line to this deal is that vandals, many of whom are neo-Nazis, often try to break into the camps to destroy and steal stuff. And the local police are *not* going to be nice to neo-Nazis.
This was exacerbated by the language barrier, none of the cops speaking Italian, and none of the Italians speaking Polish.
So put it down to misunderstanding.
