Britain summoned the Russian ambassador on Thursday and asked him to explain why two Russian "Bear" long-range bombers had flown over the English channel the previous day, a move that forced British authorities to divert civil aircraft.

"The Russian planes caused disruption to civil aviation. That is why we summoned the Russian Ambassador today to account for the incident," the Foreign Office said in a statement.

Typhoon fighter jets were scrambled to intercept the two Russian planes, which were flying close to UK airspace, on Wednesday

Just breaking.

Not sure what I think about this...

The Russians are entitled to freedom of navigation in international airspace, just like anybody else.

Controllers actually had to do their jobs, and control aircraft.

That said, the Russians are starting to get "froggy" with some of these Bear flights.

What’s to explain?

“We wanted to remind you we have the technical capability to bomb you with nuclear weapons”

There, I just saved them the time and effort. It doesn’t tale a psychic here.

You're characterizing the flying of nuclear bombers over the English channels as "freedom of navigation?" No wonder you're FR's resident retard Putinista.

So, what was the response?

If the Russian aircraft were under ATC control, then I would agree with you. If they weren’t, and they were below a certain altitude, in civilian airspace, then they disrupted civilian aircraft and posed a navigational theat to said aircraft.

No radio or transponder info, no answering of calls for ID, then the Brits should tell Putin, do it again, and there will be hostile fire.

After all, the Brit pilot cannot read the mind of the Russky pilot, and has to assume the worst if the Russky is heading for British airspace.

Why World War?

Do you think that a weak Russia of 142 million people is going to attack NATO? With what?

Because the whole world is sitting on top of a bubble of government-sponsored financial fraud unlike anything ever seen in the history of mankind.

War is the only way to hit the "reset" button at this point.

Russian invaded Ukraine. Looks like China is preparing to invade Japan. Not to mention the Middle East.

I wish it weren't true, but I don't see any other outcome, and sooner rather than later.

I see, you mean the general growth of global tensions as the old bad guys become more aggressive, I thought you meant Russia alone, as though they could invade NATO.

I've just been soaking in all the chaos happening, just today even. Should have been more clear.

We live in interesting times. Unfortunately.

A few months ago the pro-Soviet guys at FR, were trying to portray Russia as the world’s super power, a military powerhouse, too strong for America and Great Britain, France, and Germany, Poland, and the other 23 NATO nations to defeat or defend themselves from.

I thought that you might be thinking of Russia as still being strong, like the old version of 1990.

I don’t understand the sense of that response to post 15, or even know what it means.

When China extended its Air Defense Identification Zone the first thing the U.S. did was fly some B-52’s through it. Basically what the Russians did here. They are allowed in international airspace as long as they play nice with the ATC guys on the radio.

We’re in a rough time.

We’re phenomenally strong but we won’t fight the bad guys to win any more. Who will win between a muscled up pacifist and a 98lb weakling with a bad temper?
