Ohio Democrat explains pro-choice shift
CNN ^ | January 28, 2015 | Alexandra Jaffe

Washington (CNN)Ohio Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan fully reversed his anti-abortion position and came out as pro-choice in an op-ed published on Tuesday.

"I have come a long way since being a single, 26-year-old state senator, and I am not afraid to say that my position has evolved as my experiences have broadened, deepened and become more personal," Ryan wrote in the Akron Beacon Journal.

"I have come to believe that we must trust women and families — not politicians — to make the best decision for their lives," he said.

After running for Congress on a pro-life platform in 2002 and initially voting with Republicans on the issue, Ryan, who is Catholic, has shifted leftward on abortion. In recent years, he's drawn criticism from pro-life activists that once supported him for voting to protect public funding for Planned Parenthood and access to contraception.

Ryan wrote in the op-ed that his shift was inspired by conversations with women during his political career, but the move also puts him in a better position politically as he contemplates a potential 2016 challenge to Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican.

Killing the innocent may be against the laws of God, but, what the heck, if it seems to offer a political advantage (??) or seems to, he’ll do it. He’s a Democrat.

. . . but the move also puts him in a better position politically . . .

Not that anyone would be so cynical as to think that is more important to this jerk than his eternal salvation.

Ah, so it’s 100% about fundraising. Nice. 30 pieces of silver.

Dennis Kucinich did the exact same thing last time he ran for president. Said his "position evolved." Ryan at least could have made up his own soundbite instead of using Dennis's.

It might help within the party but Ohio is a pretty pro-life state. His flip-flop will not help him in a general election.

Said his "position evolved."

When people become conservative, they convert (metanoia). When they become liberal, they evolve. There must be a lesson there.

Remember when Barry “evolved” away from his prior support for DOMA because there were $millions waiting on the sidelines from the homosexuals?

If politicians shouldn't be involved in women's lives, they why is the government funding planned parenthood?

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20140604/BLOGS02/140609922/anatomy-of-a-flip-flop-dan-lipinskis-path-to-immigration-reform

Though Mr. Lipiinski kind of shrugs it off, his shift has quite a backstory. Included: calls and meetings from Cardinal George and his emissaries, messages from Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan, a letter from City Council Finance Committee Chairman and Ald. Ed Burke, 14th, and prompting by a variety of local businesses.

“We have so many people unemployed in the country right now,” responded Lipinski. “We have wages that have been stagnant for decades. So, how does allowing more people in here to work legally not do more harm to that?”

Lipinski and Ryan should have planned running to the right of Mark Kirk and Rob Portman.

When a Democrat changes his mind it’s called “evolving”. When a Republican changes his mind it’s a flip flop.
We need to coopt the language. We need to get on it and fast.

He should be excommunicated but he won’t be. This is part of how the church undermines itself.
