AN ACT RELATING TO ANIMALS; PROHIBITING COYOTE-KILLING CONTESTS; DEFINING "COYOTE-KILLING CONTEST"; PROVIDING PENALTIES. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO: SECTION 1. A new section of Chapter 30, Article 18 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read: "[NEW MATERIAL] LEGISLATIVE FINDINGS.--The legislature finds that it would benefit the state to retain its tradition of nonfrivolous hunting by eliminating the practice of coyote-killing contests in concert with long-standing conservation guidelines for hunters and anglers."

They should also ban hunting of prairie dogs and gophers, and the involuntary retirement of devoted elective officials.

That’s a mess to follow in the link and on FR.

Is NM proposing legislation to ban Coyote Killing “contests”? Is this a problem in NM? Here in the Midwest, it’s legal to shoot them on your own property as a nuisance at any time. They are like rats. We have them in the suburbs in Indianapolis. And they tend to suck at curbing the Canadian Geese infestation too.

I live in the woods. I have this awesome neighbor lady. She comes through the woods bearing chili. My rule is I NEVER ask what’s in the chili. I stopped when the answer was possum. But, I’m slurping it appreciatively and it just popped out. “Chewy. What is it?” I cringed. She said, “remember that coyote? That’s him.”

Where do these freaks come from, I used to hunt them for bounty and in Utah the ranchers would give you a dresed out lamb for a pair of ears.

They are a nuisance. Coyotes have adapted well to the urban environment and are now creating a problem. The libtards, handwringing bedwetters, and PETA types will be singing a different tune when a rabies outbreak occurs in their back yards and they can't control it.

Killing a coyote is an act of love. Just like illegally sneaking across the Mexican border.

There are lots of California fairies that “feel” really good about this.

That’s the GOOD part of this new law.

I got bounty from Cattle Mans Assoc. and Sheep Herders Assoc. and sold the pelts in Colorado. Paid for food, gas and ammo tell the state could not find a way to tax me. Now you have to turn in pelts to the State and they sell them at the end of the year. You then get a check from the State of Colorado and a W-2. Now they wonder why there knee deep in coyotes?????????

Cumberland Island in Georgia has, very oddly, become infested with coyotes (odd because it’s a non-trivial boat ride away from nearest land). While they wouldn’t want to publicize the solution, they may be interested in hunters who can discretely eliminate the pests before they wreck havoc on the ecosystem (FWIW, GA just permitted hunting with suppressors).
