Border Patrol Agents Say GOP’s Border Security Bill Is Weak ‘Window Dressing’

By Stephen Dinan January 24, 2015 Border Patrol agents’ labor union announced their opposition Friday to the House GOP’s new border security bill, calling it “window dressing” that doesn’t add any new agents or updated their firepower to get the job done in sealing off the U.S.-Mexico border.

The agents’ opposition could be a major problem for House GOP leaders who have scheduled a vote on their bill for Wednesday, but who are facing a revolt among some conservative lawmakers who say the bill needs to go much further.

Here is the right policy. Accept no less!

• Deport illegal aliens on contact with LE.
• Vigorously enforce the law on employers of illegal aliens.
• Build a border fence, use high-tech surveillance and fund adequate personnel to maintain security.
• Eliminate entitlements for illegal aliens.
• End the "anchor baby" policy.

Do those things and illegal aliens will deport themselves and pay for the trip.

The Mainstream Republican bill adds no new Border Patrol Officers or weapons or training. There is an instruction to someone to develop a policy, sometime, somewhere.

Thank you. I consider that a solid beginning not a be all end all. It’s not aggressive in terms of some call to “round up” illegal aliens. That would be expensive, ineffective and politically poisonous. And entirely unnecessary. Motivate illegal aliens to leave of their own free will (and expense) and the problem becomes self-solving. No force or threats necessary.

We don’t allow cattle to enter without a background health and ancestry check which we also reqiure of legal immigrants who wait years and still go thru health and record checks. I doubt they will end up following through even though the current Bill is not supposed to be comprehensive - it is touted as the first step in a piecemeal plan.

Time will tell, but there's no sense in sinking the ship before they pop some more holes in their own hull.
