But Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a former Congressional Budget Office director who has advised Republican leaders, said Mr. Obama may not be able to convince the country that he has made enough progress fixing the economy. It will be an uphill battle, as his policy record on growth is not strong, the recovery is still unsatisfying and the inequality message is not popular, which is why he abandoned it so quickly after declaring it the issue of our time, he said.
Stuart Stevens, an adviser to Mr. Romney during his 2012 presidential campaign, said Mr. Obama has no popular mandate for his latest initiatives. We just had an election in which the president said his policies were on the ballot, he said. Hard to see what is different today than 60 days ago.
In laying out his agenda, Mr. Obama has pointedly made little effort to embrace that of the new Republican majorities in Congress. While they want to approve the long-stalled Keystone XL pipeline, cut costly regulations and adjust the health care law to spare more businesses with part-time workers, Mr. Obama has vowed vetoes.

April 2010: Politics Digest: Biden forecasts growth of up to 500,000 new jobs a month
Biden said he "got in trouble" for his prediction last month of job growth. "Even some in the White House said, 'Hey, don't get ahead of yourself,' " he said at a Pennsylvania fundraiser, according to a pool report. "Well, I'm here to tell you, some time in the next couple of months, we're going to be creating between 250,000 jobs a month and 500,000 jobs a month.
Obama wants confrontation for the final two years of his presidency.
He’s not going to move to the center.
And the GOP is terrified of standing up to him.
I’ll have to follow the live thread.
My doc said that too much smoke being blown up my arse is unhealthy.
SOTU?
This one is repackaging everything the voters rejected in November.
Higher taxes, assault on blue collar jobs, more Obamacare and more spending than we have had before.
No reason to tune into it. If you were looking for Obama to emulate Clinton, it ain’t happening in 2015.
His entire agenda ought to be dead on arrival in a GOP Congress. Which needs to stop it.
Castrobama
Castrobama... i should add Castrobama without a cause.
This is political red meat for his Far Left base.
They love tax increases, class warfare and free stuff.
This is not a SOTU address aimed at Middle America.
Dude, where’s my Hopey Changey Thingey?
Of course he does....crisis feeds his drive to be recognized as “King”. If there's not chaos what do we need a “King” for? So he needs that to validate who he believes he is, that we know he's not........ He'll never compromise....he knows he has the goods, or can obtain or create them on anyone he chooses who might oppose him...and he'll most definitely use that power. ......It's no accident Bo has a Muslim fortress around him now.
Obama sotu...more lies...can he top if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor????
Obama sotu...more lies...can he top if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor????
Just like they in the 70’s and 80’s, the NYT waits with baited breath to hear the soviet leader’s latest “five year plan”..
I have never seen one of his SOTU addresses. I don’t plan to break that tradition now. He’s got nothing I want to hear.
I can think of about seven thousand things I'd rather do than watch that sack of monkey squat spew his lies.
Some of those seven thousand preferred activities involve surgery on sensitive body parts with no anesthesia.
My healthcare now sucks....with this monstrous deductible which would wipe me out.
