A couple of thoughts on the snub of "black" people at the Oscars. I take it at face value that awards were not given to certain people or films because the work simply wasn't good enough. Of course there might be other explanations.

People in Hollywood got a chuckle out of the hacking of the Sony executives. However, many in Hollywood are just as juvenile and snarky as the executives, and they did NOT like the Sony executive having to grovel before a creep like Sharpton. The executives might be jerks, but they're OUR jerks.

In the old days of Hollywood, many actors and actresses were just as dimwitted as today's goofballs, but they were muzzled. Agents KNEW that the public could quickly turn against someone who expressed unpopular opinions.

Perhaps there is an understanding that in some cases, films aren't doing so well because of who is in them. For example, I will do everything I can to avoid watching films with Samuel L. Jackson, Danny Glover, and Jamie Foxx. People who star with these guys might realize that their own careers might falter BECAUSE of them, and they might not get another chance to star because the film didn't do so well. And that might cause a LOT of hidden resentment.

Finally, Rush nailed it. Hollywood looks at Oprah et al as downstairs people. Sure, the stars and starlets might appear on her show and do huggie and kissy, but in the end, it's the stars that matter, and they are doing Oprah and others a favor by appearing on their shows. It's ONLY the Hollywood people who matter, and they have just let Oprah and her friends know it. BEGONE ya beastie, and hide from us until we summon ye anon.

I think Rush is absolutely right about Obama’s reason for releasing terrorists from Gitmo. All of Obama’s foreign policy decisions become understandable if you remember that in his mind everything is America’s fault, and that he’s much closer emotionally to Muslims than to Christians or Jews.
