Kerry announces planned Paris trip, says criticism for missing march 'quibbling'

Secretary of State John Kerry called criticism that no top U.S. officials attended Sunday's massive march against terrorism in Paris "quibbling" Monday, even as he announced a trip to the French capital later this week for talks on countering Islamist violence.

Kerry announced his plans at a press conference in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, where he had made a long-scheduled appearance at an international investment conference Sunday ahead of President Barack Obama's planned visit to that country later this month.

"I would have personally very much wanted to have been [in Paris]," Kerry said, "but couldn't do so because of the commitment that I had here and it is important to keep these kinds of commitments."

A lie.
The truth: his boss told him not to go.

I’m sure everyone of those heads of state had commitments which they delayed for the march. That’s what you do. This isn’t Mayberry where you’re trying to tell Opie that if you say something, you MUST perform....no matter what.

Yup.

Considering the only Arab leader taking a hard stance on terrorists is the Al Si-si and they’ve denounced him, it’ll be hard to actually develop an anti-extremist strategy.

A March against terrorism is useless.

He did have a prearranged commitment. The prez VP did not. With every other major world leader present security was not an issue. They have no excuse.

He must be serious, he’s broken out a pretend sophisticated term like “quibbling”.

I’m no big fan of the administration but I don’t see the big deal with not showing up to another ‘feel good’ march or demonstration. People get criticized if they don’t wear bracelets or wear pink or wear an I Can’t Breathe tshirt or do some sort of hashtag gimmick or join arm in arm against islamofascism. What i’d like to see is money and effort that goes into these “shows of support” be directed to where it can do the most good, research and development. Arm in arm against terrorism? How about using a cookie cutter where needed?

Leading from behind as usual. Then name-calling anyone that points out their failures.

Correct. Even if John Kerry wanted to cancel his meeting in India and attend the march in Paris, he couldn't do so without first getting approval from Obama.

I whole heartily agree with you. Big deal they march because they do not like terror. YEAH? Who does besides the terrorists.
What good does it do? Terrorists were laughing at them and saying, Oh let;s stop this these people do not like it.
They should have marched through the 750 no go zones.
I was with the million people who marched against Obamacare and what happened, we got Obamacare.

It was the largest demo in French history. It is a big deal to our oldest ally. I consider it all a farce, but one does certain things when one represents a civilized nation. One of these is attending such things. It is boorish not to.
