- Law enforcement officers face danger every day. FOX 10 had the opportunity this week to take a well-known valley activist who is critical of police through a use of force drill with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
"Let's come on down here, I think you are the prime guy to do this and learn a lesson," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Sharpton was here in the valley during the immigration rallies in 2010, marching and speaking, he even met Sheriff Arpaio. FOX 10 wanted to be sure the Sheriff wanted to invite Sharpton here. "Yeah, Al I haven't seen you in a while, we could talk in my office and we'll put you through the scenario. We had two cops who were killed in New York City, assassinated."

Yes, that was a great story! I admire that he was open to it and actually said it changed his outlook. Of course Rev. Al is another story. This will be interesting to see, but I doubt he’d agree to it.
For kicks, it’s fun to google the time a rather chubby Rev. Al got knocked on his rear by Roy Innes on the old Morton Downey Show. No doubt it was staged, but still entertaining.

I watched that one, and I have a great deal of respect for someone willing and able to change their minds on an opinion they hold so dear no matter the circumstances. I’ve watched it play out in those around me.
Neighbors of victims of a home invasion became gun-carrying citizens literally overnight. They formerly were staunchly pro-gun-control and no-guns-in-our-house.
A co-worker moved here from a very liberal area and held very liberal views. After spending months treating system-gaming dead beat welfare & disability recipients with a severe case of the gimme’s (a huge portion of the local population) she changed her politics completely. We talked about it a lot and she realized that it wasn’t just a bizarre pocket of system-gaming corruption, but an inevitable though unintended consequence of the welfare system.
People can change their minds. Even liberals. How many of us on here used to be liberal, albeit only when we were young and ignorant and foolish? I think we need to keep on working to change minds through Arpaio’s sort of scenario, and then keep talking to them. Once they’ve had a paradigm shift in one area of their political thinking, it’s easier to help them see the errors in the rest of their viewpoints as well.
I saw that video a day or so ago. It was quick and to the point. It didn’t take long and the trigger was being pulled on an “unarmed” assailant. BTW, I wonder if Rev Al will hold the pistol sideways, urban style.

I’d slip the Sheriff a extra 100 to make sure he gets a full cavity search.
