I saw some 100w incandescent bulbs for sale the other day which surprised me. Looking closely at the package fine print it said 100w... at 130V! So it’s really a 90ish Watt bulb at line voltage of 120V.. which are still legal. Excellent marketing scheme I thought.
That's either going to be a rough service or long life (or both) bulb. They get the specs up by running them cooler than specified. This squeezes them through an exemption in the light bulb law, but the price is that they are less efficient than normal bulbs. You get fewer lumens per watt than you did with normal incandescents. Take that EPA.
Just go to 1000bulbs.com and search “Rough Duty”, the good incandescents are available there and they’re pretty cheap.
Back to the days of the Huns where they would slice off a chunk of meat and put it under the saddle on their horse’s back to sit on it until time to eat.
