This series has debuted to rave reviews this new year. It is currently rated 9.4 on imbd which is higher than "Gone with the Wind, "Star Wars", and "Lord of the Rings".

Older FReepers might remember Kirk Douglas' old movie, "Heroes of Telemark", which is available in its entirety on youtube here:

Michael Bay is working on a new Hollywood big screen version called "Sabotage":

For now this series looks like a must see for historically inclinced FReepers.

Hope everyone is enjoying their new year :)

Cheers,

Euro.

I have hung around, just posted a lot less frequently.

Btw. Hushovd has now spoken about how Armstrong told him about the doping several years before his public admission, yet he kept quiet.

Lost most respect for Hushovd, and cycling in general.

These were real heroes.

Get an armband for them.

What is the best way to watch this from the US? Not the trailer, but the actual series.

I saw HEROES OF TELEMARK many years ago and again not long back.

I also remember seeing a Michael York TV movie about the same thing. I believe it was A MAN CALLED INTREPID.

Tritium infused water would restore that youthful glow.

Not sure yet. I think NRK will sell this internationally, like they did with Lilyhammer and Netflix.

It will show up on filesharing and streaming sites of course.

But, you and me need subtitles. Since the Danes (Niels Bohr, I think the grey haired man) speak Danish, Germans speak German, Norwegians speak Norwegian etc.

The series is the most high budget series produced here I think, and the plan is to sell it internationally. The co-producer is British.

Can’t give you any better answer than that.

Cheers,

Euro.

I think the sinking of the Ferry was heartbreaking.

Defenders of islam and suicuide bombings in Norway use the ferry sinking as a justification for suicuide attacks, and taking civilians out. ugh...

It is just a mini series of 6 episodes. The reviews are based on the first 2.

Our “family story” is that my uncle - Odd Johnson - led this team. He never talked about it, so we cannot really be sure. He came to Florida from Norway as a very young man and married my mother’s sister.

Very important part of the war.

I knew a German POW who was held in the US, and stayed after the war. He also hated Hogans Heroes. He was a proud German and couldn't stand the portrayals of the oafish Klink and Schultz.

I guess the show had something for everyone....

Watched the Trailer. It seems to portray Heisenberg as a gung-ho fervent wannabe bomb maker, but according to the book "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" by Richard Rhodes, It would appear that he was anything but.

According to the book, Heisenberg appeared to be deliberately dragging his feet in doing Atomic research. There were things that he appears to have deliberately sandbagged. Tests and experiments, the consequences of which would have advanced German research in the area, but for whatever reason Heisenberg seemed to be slow walking.

Also his conversation with Neils Bohr seems to indicate that he was not pursuing this area of research as strenuously as he ought to be if he were behaving like a good little Nazi.

I do know that Werner Von Braun got into serious trouble when he talked about using rocketry for purposes other than warfare, and he almost got kicked off the project and arrested. I should not be surprised to learn that not every scientist in German hands was thrilled with the idea of making death machines.

The story of Heisenberg and Boehr is very interesting, and it seems like the series will explore that. (Me asuming the elderly gentleman was Boehr). From what I have read, Heisenberg warned Boehr what Germany was doing.

I am not sure Heisenberg was a hero... sabotaging the atom bomb project from within. But, neither was he a nazi nuthead.

To me as a scientist, Heisenberg is a hero for his work. Then the war. National loyaltes. And in nazi germany get a headshot if you did not cooperate.

It was a nightmare on many levels.
