Some of us, who are old enough to remember the old television police series "Dragnet," may remember Sgt. Joe Friday saying, "Just the facts, ma'am." But that would be completely out of place today. Facts are becoming obsolete, as recent events have demonstrated.
What matters today is how well you can concoct a story that fits people's preconceptions and arouses their emotions. Politicians like New York mayor Bill de Blasio, professional demagogues like Al Sharpton and innumerable irresponsible people in the media have shown that they have great talent in promoting a lynch mob atmosphere toward the police.
Grand juries that examine hard facts live in a different world from mobs who listen to rhetoric and politicians who cater to the mobs.
During the controversy over the death of Trayvon Martin, for example, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus said that George Zimmerman had tracked Trayvon Martin down and shot him like a dog. The fact is that Zimmerman did not have to track down Trayvon Martin, who was sitting right on top of him, punching him till his face was bloody.
After the death of Michael Brown, members of the Congressional Black Caucus stood up in Congress, with their hands held up, saying "don't shoot." Although there were some who claimed that this is what Michael Brown said and did, there were other witnesses — all black, by the way — who said that Brown was charging toward the policeman when he was shot.
What was decisive was not what either set of witnesses said, but what the autopsy revealed, an autopsy involving three sets of forensic experts, including one representing Michael Brown's family. Witnesses can lie but the physical facts don't lie, even if politicians, mobs and the media prefer to take lies seriously.

MEANWHILE, Police-Black shootings have generated the prelude to a race war that serves ONLY the purposes of the Democrats, and the fact that Cosby is one of the most powerful and respected Black Democrats who has been, for years, telling the Black community to grow up, get off the government dole, raise their children, go to school and get jobs...

Yes - to the media and liberals, absolutely...and it’s been that way for awhile. What is important is the narrative and discussion it generates - what is actually true is irrelevant.
I agree with Sowell up to a point and that point is when he attempts to defend the Rodney King beating. I was in LAs at the time and saw the whole video. Contrary to what Sowell claimed the entire video was broadcast. At no time did KIng attempt to resist arrest, What he did do is attempt to CRAWL away from the attacking officers. He was on the ground and subservient but that wasn’t good enough for the officers. They continued to beat him without attempting to cuff him. They had numerous opportunities to do so but chose to beat him instead. Sowell is also either mistaken or willfully lying when he claims the grand jury failed to indict. The 4 officers were indicted and tried and subsequently acquitted when the all white jury deadlocked 8-4. Sowel also claimed the 2 passengers, Bryant Allen and Freddie Helms were not beaten. Bryant Allen was manhandled, kicked, stomped, taunted and threatened. Freddie Helms] was hit in the head while lying on the ground and treated for a laceration on the top of his head.
The civil rights trial concluded the initial strikes and “swarming” were justified but the subsequent latter strikes after he was on the found were not. Sowell is playing fast and loose with the facts in order to justify narrative, that Rodney King deserved it.
Sowell is playing fast and loose with the facts in order to support his narrative. “They deserved what they got.” Rodney King’s passengers WERE beaten. The grand jury DID indict 4 officers. The all white trial jury deadlocked at 8–4 in favor of acquittal at the state level.and the civil rights trial returned a guilty verdict and award. The video is too unclear to be sure what occurred before he was on the ground but ti appears King attempted to run away and ran into an officer Powell. King was laying face down on the ground when the officers started the baton strikes. What King did as attempt to avoid them as anyone would. Make no mistake. King was no angel but he did no deserve the 30 some baton strikes he endured.
I read outside the MSM and totally missed the above...
I saw the entire video also.
King didn’t comply when they finally got him stopped and out of the car. Some officers used excessive force and that’s why on officer tried to stop it.
Sowell does not lie.
