Indeed!
Still, the common soldiers walked across No Man's Land and embraced - and in doing so embraced and ratified their, and our, Humanity. One of the last demonstrations of Chivalry. IMHO. The slaughter that followed was horrific - a predecessor to the horrors of WWII and all that has followed.
And now we have passed the event horizon of another global conflagration.
In my youth, many described our time as Pax Americana. That day is gone. Now we are in a time of great ferment, abetted if not caused by the weakness of the United States under the present regime.
What we now face, IMHO, is what Sir Winston Churchill described in his "Their Finest Hour speech" as a "new dark age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted sciences . . . "

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Good evening, Pro...((HUGS))...did you make it home? Did you take your kiddos shooting? Did you win at cards?
I have to get through Monday and Tuesday before I can relax. Short week for payroll, then I get to work Friday. It will be VERY quiet

Hi Kathy, kids and I decided it was too COLD to go shooting so just spent Saturday hanging out at my place after lunch.
Yeah, I was the big card winner at sisters (pats self on back), so I have bragging rights until next time.
You have to work Friday? Egads!

Absolutely! And are they taking up the torch now? HELL NO!!!
They've been content to prosper under our nuclear umbrella for the last 60 years - I don't look for them to answer the call now.
The Brits are with us - I wonder how long that will last - they're being Islamisized quickly.

Great story, Galz! I doubt if that could happen between western soldiers and the animals they have to fight in a “modern” war!
They would have their throats cut before they lit the first ciggie.

God rest the souls of these fallen. It’s heartbreaking to look into their hopeful, optimistic eyes and know that they are gone...

My sister, upon leaving here a couple years ago, stopped at her daughter’s house in Tacoma....she missed the last 2 stair steps in the dark and really messed up her knee. She will be having a knee replacement in the next couple weeks. Mine will not happen while my Mom is here.
