The Presumed Crash of AirAsia Flight QZ8501 Is Nothing Like MH370

It’s been a rough year for Kuala Lumpur-based airlines, but AirAsia’s response to the loss of an airliner over the Java Sea has been miles ahead of Malaysia Airlines.

Darkness and bad weather forced the suspension of a massive search and rescue operation for AirAsia Flight QZ8501, which disappeared Sunday over the Java Sea as it flew from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore. Distraught relatives rushed to airports for news about the missing aircraft, an Airbus A320-200 carrying seven crewmembers and 155 passengers, including 16 children, one of them an infant—162 people presumed lost.

Singapore and Indonesia authorities searched the heavily trafficked patch of ocean between Indonesia, Borneo and Southeast Asia, as well as mountainous parts of the area where the plane dropped off the radar, before darkness and bad weather forced them to suspend operations. They said they would resume the search early Monday local time. Britain, South Korea and Australia also offered to help in the search and in any investigation, Malaysian officials said. Kuala Lumpur said it was sending vessels and a C-130 aircraft; Singapore also provided a C-130, and Australia said it had a P3 Orion aircraft on standby.

Air traffic control in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, lost contact with the Airbus plane around 7:30 a.m. Sunday local time near Belitung Island—about halfway between Surabaya and Singapore—authorities said. It was supposed to land in Singapore at 8:57 a.m. local time. The pilot had earlier called air traffic control reporting heavy clouds and asked to move up to 34,000 feet from 32,000 feet. Thunderstorms were in the area, according to weather reports. On board are 149 Indonesians, three South Koreans, one Singaporean, a Malaysian and one Briton, the airline said. The pilot is French and the other crewmembers Indonesian.

Note to self: don’t fly Malaysian based airlines. And don’t fly over Russian held territories.

There appear to be more similarities than differences.
I expect more Malaysians to make use of airlines originating from Australia and New Zealand, while minimizing any use of Malaysian airlines, in spite of increased travel costs.

You can find an iPhone if its stolen by tracking it with “Find my iPhone” app but we can’t find an airplane that is filled with human beings that disappears into thin air

If they would simply assume that these planes are where gen mcinerney says they are. Instead of making fun of him then the can take measures to find the next one that disappears by rigging all planes with a good detection device

They’re so closed minded that it will be many more disappearances before anything preventive occurs

Seriously, this man is off his meds no doubt. Because everything about those planes was Malaysian, in operation. And Malaysia is Muslim in most of it’s population.

It’s now about 6:50 am in Singapore and sunrise will be 7:05 am, so aerial search will begin soon if the weather cooperates.

Why don't you drop your phone in the middle of the ocean then try "find my iPhone" to see how well it works.

And Malaysia is Muslim in most of it’s population.

And so is Indonesia! Though from the article, the pilot is French.

Louis Farrakhan claimed that Mayor Ray Nagin told him that the levees had been blown up, .....a view Nagin felt obliged to disown under questioning on Capitol Hill.

I suspect the lost Malaysian Boeing 777 was probably shot down over Malaysia or Indonesia before the shooters realized flight 370 was missing. Probably considered it an unidentified aircraft which may have been up to no good so they shot it down over land in self defense. Soon after that they found out about the missing airliner and became too embarrassed to admit what they had done.

Hey, there's as much evidence that it did not crash into the sea as there is that it did crash into the sea.

I have no idea what may have happened to this recent missing plane. Probably bad weather. I suppose we'll find out sooner or later... but then again... that's what I thought when they were searching for MH370 between Malaysia and Vietnam.

I understand that but they could at least locate a specific area where the plane went down it would make things easier for them..its like finding a needle in a haystack

They’ll find this one soon enough. The waters are shallow and so the underwater locator beacon will be more effective. This time the radar plots are more specific than with MH370 and AF447.

Indonesian officials have already announced that they believe this plane is “At the bottom of the ocean” reminds me of MH370 they said the same thing at first about that plane, then changed their story. Most likely this was a weather related accident, but if the plane hit the water how come there has been no debris found. With MH370 people theorized that the captain on purpose put the plane in the water in a way so that it would sink to the bottom in one piece, but in this case, if this was just a horrific accident, there should be plane parts all over the place, shouldn’t there?
