GOP Rep. Michael Grimm Pleads Guilty to Tax Fraud
NBC New York ^ | 12/23/2014

New York Rep. Michael Grimm pleaded guilty to a single count of tax fraud Tuesday in Brooklyn federal court.

The guilty plea comes one month after the congressman, a Republican who represents Staten Island, was elected to a third term.

In April, Grimm was named in a 20-count indictment that accused him of under-reporting the payroll and earnings of his Upper East Side restaurant, Healthalicious, which he ran from 2007 to 2010. He pleaded not guilty in federal court and was released on bond.

Prosecutors alleged Grimm employed a number of immigrant workers who did not have legal status to work in the U.S., and paid them in cash -- wages that were not reported to the government. He also allegedly "substantially under-reported" the restaurant's gross receipts, lowering its taxes.

Grrrrrrr... unlike the Dems, we do NOT defend the lawbreakers on our side.

It is puzzling that they went after him for hiring illegal workers. They would have gone after him for NOT hiring them too, I bet

P.S. how do you hire illegals, and then report their income to the government? I would like to see the official paperwork on that

He should have used the Charlie Rangel rule as a defense.

I can’t help but notice that the first word in the headline is GOP.

Whereas in any Democrat story, the party affiliation, if it exists at all is buried deep inside the story.

And I must ask: How come only the president of the United States can break the laws on immigration?

The tax law is illegal. It is the FedGov that is breaking the law. Shame on us for NOT defending a patriot. Never mind. Nothing to see. Go be a good little serf and file your taxes.

It’s patriotic to hire illegals?

He pleaded guilty to tax fraud, but states the illegal alien charges are wrongful charges. Is he guilty until proven innocent?

By admitting to the tax fraud, he’s also admitted to hiring illegals; therefore Code Napoléon is not even a factor here.

The tax law is illegal.

How so? Isn't the 16th Amendment part of the Constitution?

You're right. The tax law is not illegal, it's anti-American. The Founders would have fought tooth and nail against it, even using bullets if necessary. They were true patriots. We are not. Which is why we sit back and take it up the tailpipe with nary a peep.

How do Republicans in the public eye convince themselves they can get away with this stuff?

If you have criminal partners, you know they will roll over on the “big fish” to avoid prison or reduce their sentence.

If you have disgruntled employees, you know they will roll over on you.

If you have an angry wife or an angry mistress, they will roll over on you.

And you know the Hard Left MSM is perpetually searching for Republican scandal because they want to politically destroy anyone who even occasionally pretends to be a Conservative.

James Madison, the "Father of the Constitution," proposed an income tax in 1814 to pay for the War of 1812.

Isn’t that amazing they already convicted this Republcan Congressman for tax issues and here we have Al Sharpton in debt to the government for a minimum of four million bucks.

But of coarse his Teflon coating prevents him from being prosecuted.

Something stinks here.

Grimm is an amnesty supporter. He flip flopped with Peter King.

He might vote the correct way if he is desperate.

TIRED of RINOS claiming to be conservatives to get your vote and THEN turning into Establishment shills? Tired of crooked lying politicians? That’s Grimm.

Peter King - a Grimm buddy and like-minded politically - says Jeb Bush is for “adult conservatives.”!! Are YOU an adult? King, you CONDESCENDING BASTARD. I await Grimm’s comment on Jeb Bush who is a de facto Democrat.

Fwiw, two of the GOP’s recent “bad boys”, Grimm and McAllister, are backers of #immigration reform w/ pathway to citizenship

That’s from Seung Kim who thinks Lindsey Graham should run against Luis Gutierrez in 2016.

http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2014/04/29/michael-grimm-expressed-limited-support-for-immigration-law-changes/

The freshman congressman is one of 121 House Republicans being targeted as a potential reform supporter by the Senate “gang of eight.” Grimm already rejected the Senate immigration bill drafted by the group, which passed the upper chamber in June. But he has expressed openness to giving a path to citizenship to undocumented immigrants if certain criteria are met first.

One hopeful sign to activists was Grimm’s statement on Sunday that he is working with Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.), one of the Republicans most ardently pro-reform. Grimm is not, however, a member of Diaz-Balart’s seven-member bipartisan working group on immigration reform.

“I’m proud to say that [Diaz-Balart] is my friend, I’m proud to say that I’m working with him, and I think we’re getting closer every day,” Grimm told Vargas.
