The Colorado Department of Transportation will be eliminating several wildlife traffic zones in 2015, after a study showed that increased penalties did not reduce wildlife crashes.

Good.
Incredible. Simply incredible.
The deer and elk around here don't take kindly to being assessed a tax. Of COURSE increased penalties wouldn't do a damn thing...
In other news, Denver wants to add more revenue cameras with extra short yellow lights.
Maybe they should take away all those “Deer Crossing” signs so the deer won’t cross there anymore...
Deer have speed limits?
If they’re too short, little old ladies won’t be able to see them over the steering wheel.
Forgets to mention that Colorado is open range. So if the government wants to make its highways safe from animals it must fence them in.
"White-tailed deer can jump almost eight feet high, so effective upright fences against them should be this high. Deer may be able to jump high, but not both high and over a distance. So a fence may not be as high, perhaps six feet, but slanted outward."

Wildlife ping
Colorado, where the speed limit on some narrow, two-lane, off-camber back roads with no shoulders but lots of elk, bears, deer, mountain lions, buffalo and cattle on them is 65 mph.
While some four lane highways with large medians / concrete barriers are 55 mph.
All about more revenue for the government.
Ha ha... in the West highway fences are wooden 3-rail or barb wire... I have hit a deer on US 50 East coming down Monarch Pass, and a cow on the way from Lander, Wyo to Rock Springs, Wyo. Just gotta drive like deer are mini-vans in the city, just don’t hit them!
Are western Deer and Elk worse drivers than eastern or midwestern cousins?
