On the weekend before Christmas, last-minute shoppers descended upon Buckhead to pick up last-minute gifts for their friends and family. And protesters, who in recent weeks have taken to Atlanta's streets over the non-indictments of police officers responsible for the killings of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and Eric Garner in Staten Island, N.Y., decided to stage one of their most disruptive demonstrations yet by shutting down a major intersection near two of Atlanta's biggest shopping centers.
Atlanta Police this afternoon arrested more than a dozen protesters who blocked traffic for more than 90 minutes at Peachtree and Lenox roads between Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza. Local advocacy group Rise Up Georgia organized the protest to call for more body cameras, strengthening the power of citizen review boards, and taking other steps that could lead to more police accountability.
Several-dozen activists took part in the rally. The demonstration, which aimed to disrupt economic activity near both malls, started at approximately 3 p.m. Activists holding banners ran in front of cars stopped at the Buckhead intersection. Once they blocked all lanes, others erected a 10-foot tripod supported by three metal poles that Nelini Stamp, co-director of Rise Up Georgia, sat atop in the middle of the intersection. Then another eight protesters connected to each other via lockboxes and laid down in a circle next to the tripod.

GA Ping.
Likely the same activists groups we see orchestrating these events across the states...they’re thugs and love chaos and violence...quicker they shut them off the better...this is not about free speech...this is about creating civil unrest ...and this by many of the activists who supported Obama.
Good.
Hopefully the police used their nightsticks liberally.
This would be the time for some crazy loon to drive through the crowd.
5.56mm
If Ferguson has nipped these protests in the bud, this wouldn’t be happening across the nation.
GA FReeper ping.
They should be jailed through the start of the New Year just for starters.
They want anarchy in the streets conducted by the racebaiter obama and holder with the help of sharpton with the intent to some day hopefully institute martial law
Just run over them. Case closed.
It's obscene that they weren't locked up until they got on their bus and went home.
Young people:
This is NOT the way you win friends and influence people.
We need some Rachel Corrie pancake bulldozer action stat.
They should, but this is the same city that spend months and hundreds of thousands of dollars cleaning up after "Occupy Atlanta" and never arrested anyone.
Elaborate?
We live in the area, and yesterday I was driving around doing some errands.Peachtree was at dead stop 2 lights below piedmont heading north, and presumably got worse. After 10 minutes, I u turned and cut through a sub division....jam packed.
I thought it was due to sports or something.
Traffic was so bad, I parked the rig in a sub division and walked home, the last quarter mile to the doorstep.
Whatever they did, it was effective.
Peachtree and Piedmont was bumper to bumper.
Oh I replied to the wrong thread. I do not think shutting down an intersection is good. Frankly I think the protests are bull crap and communist in nature and I am really sick and tired of it and if they got run over that would be okay with me.
The last time I checked the metropolitan population of Atlanta was about 6 million people.
Then the media has an orgasm, reports it like it's September 11th, 2011 over less that 1/100,000 of a single percent of the entire metropolitan Atlanta population that disagrees. Statistically speaking I think these are lower numbers than average. Oh but that does not stop the media covering it like Pearl Harbor just happened.
And the worthless media wonders why people do not respect them.
