U.S. Birthrate Declines for Sixth Consecutive Year; Economy Could Be Factor
The New York Times ^ | DEC. 4, 2014 | TAMAR LEWIN

The number of women in the United States who gave birth dropped last year, according to federal statistics released Thursday, extending the decline for a sixth year.

The National Center for Health Statistics reported Thursday that there were 3.93 million births in the United States in 2013, down slightly from 3.95 million in 2012, but 9 percent below the high in 2007.

According to the report, the general fertility rate in the United States — the average number of babies women from 15 to 44 bear over their lifetime — dropped to a record low last year, to 1.86 babies, well below the 2.1 needed for a stable population. For every 1,000 women ages 15 to 44, there were 62.5 births in 2013, compared with 63 the previous year.

The decline is especially notable because the number of women in their prime childbearing years, 20 to 39, has been growing since 2007.

No problem, illegals will take up the slack.

Obama could be a factor also.

Main factor — Abortion

The article doesn’t mention it, but it’d be nice if the illegitimate birthrate went down, since those are the ones we taxpayers have to be the daddy for.

Gee, really.

college graduates face a double digit unemployment rate, with cost of living sky high, car, internet, rent, with average (reported) loan expenses meant to pay back $30,000.00 loans.

They can’t even get married, much less think about families.

Obama’s handlers have this in mind.

Interesting.

when people say illegitimate birth has to decrease, it’s quite rare to hear in the same argument that sex outside of marriage has to stop.

And they say birth control is not a factor.

OK

John Paul II, in his theological wisdom, Saint John Paul, that is, stated very clearly that abortion is an after effect of birth control

I cannot comment on it, ever, without argument.

But he of course was a hundred percent correct on this.

All I said is, I’d like the illegitimate birthrate to go down.

And in former times, people would say that males need to quit taking advantage and respect marriage, but that is too much for people even conservatives to fathom.

Sad thing is, the people we want to have children can’t afford it.

The people we don’t want to have kids, simply rely on the government.

males need to quit taking advantage and respect marriage

I don't disagree with that. Maybe conservatives can fathom more than you think.

The deductible for having a kid is pretty steep with a lot of health plans these days.

When the real-wage began declining in 1973, you get the dividends of abortion and non-child-bearing.

Throw in the shock of 9/11, then the financial crash of 9/08, now zerocare, nobody can afford kids anymore.

This is how you kill a Nation, the most important Nation in history.

When my wife and I married, we wanted to have 2 children and adopt a 3rd, with my wife wanting to be a stay at home Mom. (Sort of “practice what you preach”.) Financially, it turned out to be impossible. (We have a daughter and my wife and I home school my daughter.) It nearly makes me cry when my daughter writes that her Christmas wish is a sister...
