I was only 18 when Bill Cosby drugged me. I woke up naked; he was licking my toes.' (6 Years Ago)

Sorry to bother.

You aren't bothering me at all. I think we are having a good debate and intelligent conversation.

It's not about 'winning' any argument. It's about getting down to the the truth. I don't know everything, and I don't think you do either. After a good debate, if we're lucky, we both learn something new.

KR stated that he announced the party to all of her office colleagues.

I see upon rereading the account that she arrived at 10pm on a weekday evening, and chose to stay a while, even on learning that his family was not present and that no one else had yet arrived for the party.

If so, I concede that that seems unusual. I am not a woman, so I cannot place myself in a woman’s shoes and see things the way a woman would see things with total certainty, yet as a guy just making a guess, it would seem to me that KR placed herself at some degree of temptation (if not risk). Personally, had I been an angel on her shoulder, I would have advised her not to stay. (It is still not an excuse to drug and molest, if drugging and molestation occurred. It just introduces IMHO a degree of uncertainty as to the veracity of the remainder of her story.)

P.S. I am highly skeptical of BC’s claim that he is innocent.

total agreement with you there. i am learning too. maybe we cannot learn what the ultimate truth is, but we might be able to identify the more likely possibilities by discussion without emotion. ultimately, judging BC’s guilt or innocence would require exercising legal mechanisms not available to me as just a concerned but uninvolved member of the public. in that regard, best not to rush to judgment.

yeah, me too. i was a fan. i can recall the positive spirit of the times when I Spy was on TV. i may even have still have some of his comedy LPs tucked away somewhere. it is just that i feel that women in general deserve every practical protection from date rape and so on, which is just not right, while of course protecting men’s rights. nice guys have enough of a difficult time as it is with women, without BC’s alleged type and his alleged behavior.

:-(

Oddly, that was back during the time they 'claimed' that there was rampant racism.

I remember watching I SPY. Never missed an episode. And during all that time watching, it never occurred to me that Bill Cosby was 'black'. I'm not expressing that the right way, but I think you know what I mean.

I often think the problem is that the world (or at least our part of it) is so screwed up right now that Cosby’s foibles may not get the regard they should. Maybe I’m wrong and Justice will soon be served. But I doubt it.

My understanding at least is that the nominal role of judges is not to laugh at testimony.

While I didn't mean laugh out loud, I would think the Judge would reject that kind of testimony (of course, what I think and what a Judge does are often far apart).

If a witness/victim says "I don't remember anything at all" and says, "I remember I was raped", there is a bit of a conflict there. A defense lawyer would tear that apart.

I would be willing to believe that most if not all of these alleged women victims and witnesses would let BC go and cease actively accusing him of abuses if he were to do something altrustic and in the direction of karma-healing such as contribute towards battered women’s shelter foundation or sexual abuse awareness education (these are just conceptual examples that i made up just to try to illustrate the notion). Everyone could then in theory walk away claiming something positive was achieved. My sense is that the lawsuits are primarily aimed at getting BC to come clean and amend his ways, though i might be overly idealizing the reality. I recall one lawsuit being for $75k. That seems almost like a drop in the bucket, at least compared to BC’s estimated current wealth. $75k might pay for 1 years worth of inexpensive living expenses in Calif., or about 5 years of therapy (whatever good therapy actually does one, somewhat debatable i would think). It sounded to me on the sidelines as if it were taken on as a matter of principle. Were it me, and the allegations true, and I was truly angry or in revenge mode, I imagine that I might have asked for much more in damages.

It may be a long and twisted path from the news conference microphone stand to the witness stand, and a story told in one venue may end up being told in a different manner in a different venue, for various reasons. I do agree that the scenario that you paint does seem rather pointless to carry to completion, whether or not a judge has the opportunity to render actual judgment on the testimony in real time (and he might— as i am no legal expert, i just do not know). i do somehow sense that that is not the way it would play in practice since it seems a bit fantastic and it would also be fantastic to believe that anyone would think that a judge or jury would be convinced by that meager amount of detail. eg, it might be either a feint, or intentional withholding of detail until actual trial, either way being a strategy cooked up in conjunction with plaintiff’s lawyer. so i wonder if anyone on the outside could really have much success in predicting what would actually be up their sleeve.

If anyone is still following this discussion, I ran across a report that Hollywood gathered forces around Roman Polanski to try to protect him from being prosecuted for statutory (anal) rape of then 13yo Samantha Geimer in 1977. (Polanski was convicted of a lesser charge and later fled to France.) Currently it is reported that Geimer and Polanski are in occasional email contact with each other despite Polanski being held guilty in a court of law.

"There was a film from the late sixties called CANDY which was about two older men having sex with a I think fourteen year old."

OMGosh...I think I saw this movie when it came out!

All but forgotten now....must not have been up to my standards!

Heh....and no, I didn't see it with Bill Cosby - just a few knucklehead friends with nothing better to do.

We liked Buck Henry - probably why we went.
