Remember When MSM Mocked Michele Bachmann for $2 Gas Pledge?
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/13/2014 6:01:14 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

So who's crazy now? In 2011, the MSM mercilessly mocked Michele Bachmann for saying that if she became president, gas prices would fall to under $2/gallon. Typical was Time magazine, which called her prediction "fantasy." Time mocked Bachmann's drill, baby, drill policy, sniffing that if implemented, "prices at the pump might drop a whole 3 cents a gallon."

But on CBS This Morning, there was top oil analyst Tom Kloza, saying that by Christmas, gas prices would be in the range of . . . $1.99-2.29 [I saw $2.18 here in Texas yesterday]. So who's crazy now, and where does Bachmann go to get her apology from the MSM that so mercilessly mocked her?

Remember when Zero said, “You can’t drill your way to lower gas prices”?

Yes, I do remember when all the Wizards of Smart were calling Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin silly and stupid to even dare imagine that more drilling could produce lower gas prices.

Gas price was $2.21.9 in Casa Grande on Thursday when I filled the truck. A full $1.30 less that I paid back in September. That is $26.00 I have to spend on Christmas that I did not have last year.

Michele Bachmann is retiring from the House of Representatives at the end of this year. I'll miss her.

you would think just by blind luck or the law of averages that Obama would be right SOME time ... but nope. President Obola is wrong 100% of the time.

In fact liberals are so wrong, so consistently, you can pretty much depend on it.

They say it will get hotter... bet on it getting colder. They say there will be more hurricanes... bet on their being none. They say the polar ice caps will melt... bet on a new ice age!

Wonder if she’ll run for the Senate? We really can’t afford to lose a solid Conservative like her.

I really like the ring of "Senator Bachmann" and "Senator Palin". Oh, wait...I like the ring of "Senate Majority Leader Palin" even better.

Bottom line: I wish they'd both run for the Senate. And Ollie North, too (I know I'm dreaming with that last one).

The logical thing to do is enact a tariff on imported oil - with an exception for Canadian oil not reexported from the Eastern Hemisphere. Stabilize our prices and let the Saudi’s whipsaw other countries’ markets.

We should NOT be melting down our drilling rigs for scrap, and we should NOT dissipate the intellectual capital we have built up in our domestic productive capabilities.

Looks to me like Obama and current prices clearly demonstrated the Office of the President does NOT control gasoline prices.

Do you believe current gasoline prices were caused by presidential action?

It wasn’t $2; it was $1.80. And she ‘promised’ it, if she were president.

That is quite different than letting the market determine the price.

Bachmann’s pledge was nothing less than overt pandering in an attempt to get a bump in her compaign. Most saw through it.

Can't pull it off in Minnesota. I could see her easily with a cabinet post in a Cruz administration.

Policies enacted that free up drilling certainly have an impact.

At the time Michelle said this, fracking was in its infancy. What she was referring to was probably the following measures:

1-Open ANWR for drilling.

2-Authorize drilling and exploration leases on other public lands.

3-Open both coasts to offshore drilling.

4-Defund, or at least defang EPA.

5-Approve Keystone pipeline.

6-Allow infrastructure for exporting LNG to be built.

Of course, all of these have been prohibited by the current adminstration. If the next president can preside over getting these things done, then, along with hydraulic fracturing, we would have cheap energy for years to come.
