Democrats Can Win the South Again. Here's a Simple Strategy for Hillary 2016. (Hilarious!)
The New Republic ^ | December 11, 2014 | Michael A. Cooper Jr.

Democrats can win in Virginia and North Carolina, and at least be competitive in Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, and West Virginia. The problem is turnout. November’s election saw the worst turnout since 1942, when millions of Americans were overseas fighting in the Second World War.

The typical nonvoter, then, is poor and favors Democrats. So why aren’t they showing up?

While nonvoters are skeptical of immigration and gay rights, social issues don’t fire them up, otherwise they’d be voting Republican. That’s why Democrats don’t have to move right on God, guns, or abortion. They need to speak to issues that nonvoters care about.

In Appalachia, the biggest threat to health and safety isn’t gun violence, climate change, or a War on Women; it’s prescription drugs. West Virginia has the highest drug overdose rate in America. More people die overdosing on OxyContin, Vicodin, or Xanax in West Virginia than die in car accidents.

Somewhere along the way, the party of Andrew Jackson, William Jennings Bryan, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Robert F. Kennedy became a defender of the banks and the pharmaceutical companies, comfortable among the rich, and ashamed of the working class. And that’s when Democrats lost the South.

There’s a reason why Senator Elizabeth Warren was invited down from Massachusetts to campaign in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Georgia. She knows whose side Democrats are supposed to be on. The question is, does Hillary?

New Republic gets one thing right:

Hillary will NEVER win in the South.

Actually that IS true.

The Bitter Clingers statement being the primary example of effete elite condescension towards the Common people of the South.

Why support people who spit on you?

Sorry Hillary. We are past the point where you can simply go back to calling yourself Mrs. Bill Clinton to get votes in the South.

Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Robert F. Kennedy

Oh yes - a right pair of proletarian saints.

Hillary will never win in the South.

But Liz Warren just may. They don’t like New York bankers down there any better today than they did when they elected Andrew Jackson.

The Clintons didn’t help Pryor or Landreau. Their influence in the South is not as great as they think. And, Hillary wasn’t that popular when BJ was governor.

Hillary’s pandering ‘no ways tard’ might work with some groups, but it also alienates other groups.

This year it appeared the Clintons were totally toxic on the campaign trail.
I’m not sure if any of their endorsements outside deep blue states even came close to winning.
There are rumors Chels is begging them to stay home when she starts her quest for elected office.

Don’t bet the farm on that! The line has been drawn by the progressives and we’re never crossing it.

For the Democrats, of course they and Hillary can win in the South. Just like one of Mary Landrieu’s supporters urged, “Vote early, vote often!”

That made my skin crawl just remembering that. That, and Kerry's 'where kin ah git me a huntin' license' schtick.

Both reek of condescension and contempt.

Demographics. Only a matter of time.

A real populist can wreck havoc on both parties, probably splitting the R vote.

That is a strategy I'm sure the Dems could roll out. It would work because the GOP sure has neglected that part of the citizenry.

Their strategy has been simple from the beginning: lie their asses off and NEVER admit that the ultimate goal is a totalitarian socialist government.

That article never got to the point - stating how the Democrats can win the South.

It sort of hinted at it, and those hints point to a Democratic Party plan for... wait for it... class warfare and socialist redistribution schemes.

Wow. That's new.
