I really want to know what an app is. The word started appearing just recently. I’m old and can’t keep up with everything, don’t have a television so don’t see commercials which explain a lot of new thinga. Could you please explain what an app is?

They are programs that run on the phone’s OS.

A real common example is one to operate your home alarm system from the phone.

Most fast food restaurants have one that notifies you when you are near one.

Or you might have one to read your email (if you don’t mind taking the risk of losing lots of messages to who knows where)

.

Thank you. I just got a cell phone, but it’s a cheap one, and I don’t think it has a OS.

Mostly they are for “smart phones,” but until recently I had a flip phone that ran several apps (Casio G-zone)

"No one will be successful in mandating that everyone be forced to buy..."

Do I really have to say it?

You know where this is going, right? As more and more states implement bullshit like this (don’t get me started on toll roads without toll booths), Fedzilla will begin to offer free phones with every felony conviction, or with every 3rd abortion... on your dime.

Then they will declare that wireless communication is too important to leave to private enterprise and begin a push for a facsist takeover or corporate cronyism kickback scheme (on your dime) to control wireless communications access... ultimately controlling content.

Tinfoil hat? Not really.

Me thinks its just an ....app. Not mandatory, just an option to make more money from those that want to carry nothing but a digital wallet per se.....

I will never do such but ....just saying.....Stay Safe !

I apologize for my answer then, as I just thought you were being sarcastic.

OS = Operating System. Your phone has one, but I will let the tech-savvy people here explain what you need to know.
(I still don’t have a smart phone.)

So are these electronic nerds going to issue me a phone? My phone hangs on the kitchen wall and the cord is not long enough to take it very far.

What happens if your phone provider makes a mistake, cancels payment for a late payment not received, or a payment lost in the mail, or your bank makes a mistake, or you change service or change phones? What happens if you loose your phone and you get pulled over? What happens when someone who looks like you steals your phone? What happens when someone hacks all your info off your phone and the cop does not recognize it? What happens when..............

What happens when the cop decides to search your phone since he already has his hands on it?

For Information

But people who want to stick with their plastic license will also be given that
option -- or they can ask to have both a plastic license and an app.

Electronic Proof of Insurance
Maryland is the most recent state to adopt e-card laws or regulations that allow drivers to show evidence of insurance with their smart phone during a traffic stop. As of June 26, there are 37 states with e-card laws. In 2014 Delaware, Maryland, Rhode Island, South Carolina and South Dakota enacted e-card legislation. The trend of states modernizing their insurance laws has advanced quickly. In 2011, no states allowed drivers to use their cell phone to show proof of insurance in a traffic stop and today more than two-thirds of the states have enacted laws or adopted regulations.

I was criticizing the headline with noise. Headlines that exaggerate are getting to be a common nuisance. Same here on avoiding keeping sensitive documents on computers connected to the Internet.

Strange times we’re in. People become more promiscuous with sensitive information. One consequence is that of more forensic time and money to try to sort out facts for cases related to ID theft. Another is the push for more public access to personal information.
