When asked a stupid question, Ronald Reagan would always answer with something funny which made him look personable and connect with voters at the same time making the stupid person look stupid.

Our candidates must be able to be loose, relaxed , professional, and have good humor.

Yes, Ms. Hunt, I am smart enough to be President. I also have an excellent sense of smell and could smell your rotten body the minute you walked into this room!

I'd add her to this picture, but nobody would know who the hell she is...

Should have just said "Before I answer that can you answer this: have you ever asked that question of any Democrat politician?" In the highly unlikely situation that he answers "yes" then you say "Well at least you are fair in your lack of tact". If he answers "no" or refuses to answer then answer "well, I guess I see where you are coming from then." In either case, stop there.

Bottom line: don't give them what they want, which is a headline in the morning news addressing whether the candidate is smart (leaving the impression that he is a dummy, regardless of how he answered).

I am surprised the dumb < rhymes with hunt > didn’t ask “Have you stopped beating your wife?”

If the question is “Are you smart enough to get elected POTUS, that can only be answered by time.

But if the question is, are you a member of Mensa, the answer is irrelevant because although there are many Mensa members, and others who would qualify but haven’t joined, as far as I know none of them has ever become president. Certainly none of them have been excellent presidents. Herbert Hoover, for instance, was quite intelligent but became a byword for ineptness as president. And while Jimmy Carter’s intelligence was unquestioned, the result of his policies were no better overall than Hoover’s.

Most presidents, even great ones, have only one legacy that you could put on their headstone. Ronald Reagan checked the energy crisis, whipped inflation, got the country going again, and transcended communism. And he did all that with a hostile majority party in control of the House. I can only aspire to being adroit enough to have my intelligence compared with the man who was famously called an “amiable dunce.”

His response makes me wonder. He needed to swat that down with the disdain it deserved. Wonder if they’ll ask Ted Cruz that question.
