Can it send O back to Kenya or Indonesia (or better yet, Uranus)?

What we really need is tele-deportation. We could solve the “immigration” problem right quick.

from what i understand of quantum entanglement, why is the current max distance only 15 miles?

according to the theory, the distance is irrelevant. if that is the case, then this should work from boston to los angeles right now.

doesn’t it? why not?

Mostly because it is very easy to lose a single photon.

they aren’t aiming the photons and it’s not a line of sight thing.

unless of course, you’re trolling. in which case, thanks for the waste of time

Now THAT is an application they should put that thing on the fast-track for!

It probably does work to produce that distance, and even unlimited distances; and since a working science model of this caliber as in many others quickly become militarized (especially under this particular administration), this science group is likely under a mandate to underreport the achieved distances to the general public.

Why wouldn’t they aim the photons and use line of sight?

the distance possible for line of sight is hampered by the curvature of the earth.

also, ‘instantaneous’ and much faster then the speed of light.

if, indeed, they’ve got quantum entangled particles... changing one on earth would -instantly- change the other on mars. if it were light based, and ignoring the issues with line of sight, it would take light between 3 and 22 minutes to reach the earth (depending where each is in their orbit relative to each other)

-instant- is a whole different level.

it would also allow for a whole new generation of manned robotic vehicles taking tele-presence a step closer to reality

What would be a really good textbook to delve into on this?

sorry, i’ve not found a good book on quantum entanglement and it’s current state of development

What I don’t get is how do they know when they have an ‘entangled pair’ ? Do they have their arms around each other ? (Just kidding)

How do they know that the partners are entangled (have the same element like spin) and that if one changes, the other does, without checking them, which would cause them to change anyway ?

How do they separate individual photons ? How do they get them un-entangled if they are so close together ? How do they even know one from another, do they all wear different outfits ? Name tags ?

How do they know that the ‘photon’ only changes ‘spin’ in response to another one ? What if changes in spin happen all the time, and since there are only two directions, it is likely that half the photons in existence are going one way, the other half going the other. Matter of fact, they must.
