The Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom is delighted to welcome Senator Ted Cruz to deliver the 9th Margaret Thatcher Freedom Lecture. Previous speakers in the Thatcher Freedom Lecture series have included former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, journalist and author Charles Krauthammer, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, free market economist Hernando De Soto, historian Victor Davis Hanson, and human rights champion Natan Sharansky. In his address, Senator Cruz will outline his vision for restoring American leadership on the world stage and rebuilding partnerships with key U.S. allies at a time of increasing global threats to the United States and the free world.
Senator Ted Cruz was elected as the 34th U.S. Senator from Texas in 2012. A passionate fighter for limited government, economic growth, and the Constitution, Cruz won a decisive victory in both the Republican primary and the general election, despite having never before been elected to office. Propelled by tens of thousands of grassroots activists across Texas, his election was described by the Washington Post as “the biggest upset of 2012 . . . a true grassroots victory against very long odds.” In the Senate, he serves on the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Armed Services; the Committee on the Judiciary; the Special Committee on Aging; and the Committee on Rules and Administration. Before being elected, Cruz received national acclaim as the Solicitor General of Texas, the State's chief lawyer before the U.S. Supreme Court. Serving under Attorney General Greg Abbott, he was the nation’s youngest Solicitor General, the longest-serving Solicitor General in Texas, and the first Hispanic Solicitor General of Texas. Cruz graduated with honors from Princeton University and with high honors from Harvard Law School.

I can’t think of any country that’s not socialist, communist or a banana republic run by thugs.
One could argue that the US is not socialist, but we’re obviously headed that way even if one doesn’t think we’re there yet.
