Australia wins my Darwin Award for dumbest nation on Earth
Courier-Mail (Brisbane) ^ | 8th December 2014 | Rowan Dean

Posted on 12/08/2014 11:51:10 AM PST by naturalman1975

I’M THINKING of setting up a national version of the Darwin Awards;.....

When I say “national”, I mean it literally – my Darwin Awards aren’t for people, they’re for nations. I’m going to hand out an annual prize for the dumbest, most imbecilic country on the planet that is setting out to destroy its own comfortable way of life via its own moronic actions.

I’m going to find the one nation that’s doing the equivalent of putting its head out of the train window to see if there’s a tunnel approaching.

And right now, Australia looks like being the 2014 National Darwin Award winner. Why? Because we are among the most collectively stupid people on the planet. Just look at the statistics – or rather, the opinion polls.

Apparently, a majority of us think Bill Shorten would be a better prime minister of our country than Tony Abbott.

.....

The irony with our National Darwin winner – Australia – is that the very bloke Australians want as their next prime minister was part of the team that got us into our financial mess in the first place.

Worse, Shorten is either so dumb or so devious that he is now opposing the very same $5 billion worth of cuts to spending that he supported when he was in government.

Let’s remind ourselves: when John Howard was booted out, he left about 20 billion bucks in the till. Nice one.

Within a matter of months, Rudd and Swan blew the lot. Then, having got a taste for spending our money, Labor started splashing out billions more that didn’t actually exist, so they borrowed it. And never paid it back.

I think this is a very cogent analysis of a lot of what is going on in Australian politics at the moment. I don't think Tony Abbott is doing a bad job as Prime Minister in terms of what he is accomplishing and trying to accomplish - but he's not doing a good job of selling it to the Australian people. And the Labor opposition under Bill Shorten are getting away with doing nothing except soundbite politics without any real policies except to oppose almost everything the government is trying to do, and pretending that there's nothing wrong with spending money we don't have.

Couple with a relentless campaign from other sections of the left who have no hesitation in misrepresenting and at times blatantly lying about Tony Abbott and his government (one of the latest - they are screaming about Tony Abbott 'cutting university funding', but when his government announcing hundreds of millions of dollars in new targeted funding to private universities and colleges, they have started screaming that "Abbott wants to fund the training of priests" because about a dozen of the nearly two hundred institutions involved have some courses relating to religion - ignoring the fact that the majority of the institutions are secular and the vast majority of the courses are - it's frankly disgusting, immoral, and dishonest 'reporting' but so far, the government doesn't seem to have worked out how to counter it. They should be anticipating the lies and be ready to instantly counter with the truth and it just doesn't happen.

It's nearly two years until the next election. It can be turned around. But it really needs to start happening very soon. One of the big dangers is that the leader of the party (and therefore the Prime Minister) can be changed at any time by the members of the party in Parliament - if Abbott's poll numbers get bad enough, he could be replaced. He's a genuine conservative - not all those with the highest likelihood of replacing him are. Malcolm Turnbull, in particular, is much more popular with a lot of the electorate - but he's from the moderate, centrist wing of the Liberal Party, rather than a real conservative. He'd be much better than Labor - but we'd lose the chance for real conservative policies.

The problem is, if Abbott can't get his policies converted into laws by getting them through the Senate, it doesn't really matter than much what the policies are.

My vote goes to the country that is allowing the most Muslims to invade their country.

Oh, come on, some of us here in America think, as a collective, we deserve that honor.

I bet Australia doesn't have the racial tensions we do after electing (twice) the 1st black President.

We're still waiting for that hopey, changey thingy....Oh wait...

Agreed. Between Obamacare, Amnesty, 20+ million illegals, and $8T in additional debt (going from $1T 33 years ago to $18T today), we are #1 when it comes to national suicide. American exceptionalism - no one is even close to us.

Abbott certainly isn’t. He’s a genuine conservative and a decent man. He just isn’t doing a good job of selling himself or his policies.

I haven’t made up my mind on Shorten. At the moment, his strategy of doing nothing but oppose and attack, and promise to spend money, is electorally successful, so it’s hard to blame him for doing it from a political perspective. If he actually had to come out with his own policies and stand for something, he might not actually be too bad - at least in a relative sense (he’d still be a left wing unionist).

The U.S. can trump your stupidity with three words: Barack Obama, twice.

That's true, that should include the Western European Countries...
They're having a creeping (breeding like gerbils) Muslim Problem

I say the USA is far ahead of Australia in this contest.

At least they haven’t elected a black racist, illegal alien, closet muslim, who is determined to destroy their country as their Prime Minister.

I left when I lost my job as I felt that I spent too much time blogging and not enough time working on productive, moneymaking things. I was also spooked by an IRS issue that may have resulted from my right wing postings.

I did not post for over a year and hope to keep it limited this time around.
