The GOP’s War On Obama’s Executive Action Lasted About 5 Minutes
Talking Points Memo ^ | December 3, 2014 | Sahil Kapur

Posted on 12/03/2014 9:06:34 AM PST by C19fan

Five months ago, conservative were so livid over President Barack Obama's upcoming "executive amnesty" that incoming House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) couldn't bring himself to rule out impeaching the president as punishment.

Now, even firebrand Rep. Steve King (R-IA) and Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Obama's chief immigration foes, have ruled that out. GOP leaders were never seriously considering the idea, but they've successfully tamped down any talk of it.

What's more, Republicans may be on the brink of avoiding a government shutdown fight, at least until March, and effectively permitting the executive actions by "Emperor Obama," as Speaker John Boehner's (R-OH) office has dubbed him, with no pushback other than a symbolic vote of disapproval.

The new Congress has not even been sworn in yet. And we still have one election left to go in LA this Saturday.

Be patient. Keep your powder dry. Revenge is a dish which is best served cold.

Soetoro will get his just rewards in good time.

Has John Boehner switched parties yet? Or is he waiting for an invite to the Oval Office to do it there in a more official setting?

No, he won’t. Worthless John Boehner and his merry band of surrender monkeys talk a good game, and are happy to pose as stalwart fighters, but as soon as it is time to actually fight, they quickly assume the fetal position and cry.

If you thought the last House was a disappointment, wait until the fountain of submission pee we’ll all see as soon as McCave-in and Worthless John Boehner take their gavels and run for the cloakroom...

“Almost no members want to get back into what happened last year,” Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), a vocal GOP critic of the 2013 shutdown, told TPM. “If you find some, let me know. They’re an endangered species.”

What was that exactly that “happened last year”? The government shutdown. Must have missed it. It really killed
the GOP’s chances in the midterms /s

Dumbass

I did not think the last House was a disappointment.

It passed a lot of good bills that I supported.

Not their fault everything got killed in the Senate,

The Congressional GOP is spineless
and all we have is this Boehner which "Lasted About 5 Minutes (from the title) ".
After four hours, does the GOP go to the hospital, or to the bar ?..
For a " beer summit" with the Emperor ?

Voting Republican and expecting a different result.

LOL

No wonder Boehner, McConnell, et al, are laughing. They won. Conservatives lost.

But, that is what they get for reelecting Boehner as Speaker and electing McConnell as Majority Leader.

Has John Boehner switched parties yet?

Similar questions have been raised about Graham, McCain, and a dozen more.

Why change? They and their colleagues across the aisle are members of the unofficial Big Government/Big Spending Party. So, it doesn't make much difference who is actually in the leadership positions.

Why not just pass a continuing resolution, funding the government until March of 2015. that way the incoming House and Senate, with a Republican majority can present a budget representing the will of the people, as express by the mid-term elections.

“Be patient. Keep your powder dry. Revenge is a dish which is best served cold.”......

I appreciate the thought of being patient but time has just about run out for all of we conservatives. The republican party is no longer interested in what the people want or do they have any intentions of following through on what got them elected in the first place.

The longer we wait, the worse the problem becomes. We are balancing (bairly) on a cliff waiting for a strong wind gust to blow us over.

I respectfully disagree. We should tread carefully, like a crocodile patiently waiting below the surface.

Soetoro is trying to inflame the GOP and the new Congress. He wants the House to pass impeachment articles. He wants a government shut down. Nothing would please him more. He needs it to rally his base.

Sometimes patience is a virtue. Let him implode. There will be many investigations coming up. Investigations on Lois Lerner and the “lost” emails. Investigations on Gruber and Obamacare. Investigations on Benghazi. It will all out come out in due time.

One thing not to do is over react and panic or get into a hissy fit. That’s precisely what Soetoro wants, for us to lose our cool. There is a time for everything. Wait at least for the new Congress to be sworn in .

What the hell do you suggest? Sit at home? In Maryland, the guy I voted for in the primary lost and we got some extreme, uneducated individual to run against Steny Hoyer. Do you suggest I stay at home? Vote third party? Write in? Just exactly what do you and people like you want us to do? What is your solution?

“Sahil Kapur is TPM’s senior congressional reporter and Supreme Court correspondent. His articles have been published in the Huffington Post, The Guardian and The New Republic”

The Democrats are so worried that GOP opposition may be waning...

If the lame duck congress passes a CR funding the gov. through next year which appears to be the Republican plan, what are we going to do then with the dry powder and revenge? Essentially they destroy any sway the new Congress would have. And if the Repusslicans won’t fight now having just won a land slide election do you honestly think they will fight in 2016 with a presidential election looming.

I swear to God I would love to play poker with the GOP leadership, they are so damned stupid they would tell me what was in their hands each time the cards were dealt and their intentions.

I have never seen such inept stupidity and incompetence on display by these buffoons in leadership roles and I am being charitable with the buffoon description. Either that or they are intentionally doing this because they are really behind what the liberal democrats want. Has to be one of the two.

I’m not sure about the CR.

But these three things I am reasonably certain:

1) Soetoro will be POTUS until January 20, 2017.
2) There will be no government shut down.
3) There will be no impeachment.

Elections have consequences. Yes conservatives and Republicans have something to celebrate with the election results from last month. But we still have divided government and we do not have the 2/3 vote required to override presidential vetoes. We do have the power of the purse and I am hoping we will see a significant reduction or a least a slow down in federal spending these next two years. But that all said, I don’t think much will be accomplished these next two years. The way our government is set up, you really cannot accomplish much unless you have the presidency and both houses of congress under the control of one party. The GOP’s hand has been strengthened, but most of the positive change we will see will come from the individual states. We still have divided government in DC. We still have pretty much stalemate. I don’t expect much to happen in DC until there is a COMPLETE change of government in DC.

The option of impeachment as you say is off the table and honestly the Republicans wouldn’t do that if they had 85 seats in the senate.

The only other option is to shut down the government to defund lawless action. If you are unwilling to do so then you do not have the power of the purse, pure and simple. You can pass bills all day long in the House and Senate and der fuhrer will veto them.

The Republicans in Washington have group think mentality and kowtow to the media who hates their guts, why I don’t know because they are essentially nothing more than skinflint democrats at this point. If the media and democrats told the Republicans that practicing pedophilia and child sacrifice was the only way they could win they would take up these evil practices. They let their enemy the democrats tell them when, where, how and why they do things and they always lose. Uniparty on parade, not a dimes worth of difference.
