Natalie Dubose has no choice but to carry on, one day after rioters smashed the windows of her Ferguson bakery.
"I'm baking today," Dubose told CNNMoney, as the sound of broken glass being swept up can be heard over the phone. "We have orders to go out for Thanksgiving. I can't tell the people -- I won't tell the people -- that I'm canceling."
Like many other small businesses, her bakery Natalie's Cakes and More was vandalized Monday night in the wake of the grand jury decision not to charge Officer Darren Wilson with killing Michael Brown. The shop's main window is "busted out completely. They threw a chair in it to bust it out ... It's a big mess," said Dubose, who opened Natalie's Cakes as recently as June.
Despite the mess, however, Dubose says she will continue to bake. She can't afford to give up now, having invested all she had into a business that was funded through bake sales at flea markets. "I am a single mom, a mother of two," she said. "This is everything that I own. I can't walk away from it. I just got to start up and start baking again."

She is an oreo for acting white. She deserved it. /sarc
I would order something from her shop if I were near the area!
-Emperor Barackula
Now the Health dept. will send in a swat team for some violation.
The street savages just had a tantrum. The only purpose was to tell everybody they’re mad. Just like with spoiled children who have a tantrum, their anti-social actions should not be tolerated.
I really feel bad for Natalie DuBose and others like her that have suffered for no reason.
It’s a sad, stark reminder that riots always end up hurting innocents, and making things worse than before. I wonder how man shopkeepers will lose everything before the Ferguson riots are done?
Anyway, good luck to this woman. I admire her for taking a risk in starting her own business, and in trying to make a better life for herself and her family.
I didn't shoot Michael Brown.
I didn't shoot anybody.
YET
I hope 20 years from now she has a few more locations and more than a few repeat customers who tell their kids about that time she filled their orders even though it was in the middle of the riots. The circumstances suck, but the best traditions come out of the most difficult times.
And I hope her customers who have placed orders have the balls to come in and pick them up. I can see her getting stiffed under the current climate.
Ms Dubose, did you vote for Barack Obama? He would like you to understand that you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. Nothing personal.
She’s black! Aren’t all you racist Freepers supposed to wish her misfortune? \sarc
I feel sorry for blacks like her — the honest, hard-working people who are trying to support themselves & obey the law. Unfortunately they not only have to suffer the brunt of these savages, but they get lumped together in the public mind with them.
She needs a Volunteer Militia to protect her shop.
Ever see chickens gang up on another chicken and peck it to death? That's what happens here.
She better get the hell out of there before dark.
Oh, and she better hope no LGBT’s show up demanding a wedding cake.
What a great idea.
Need to reward ‘normal’ particularly in a storm of insanity.
God Bless this woman, she is couragous!
