This is sure to warm even the iciest hearts
At a Toronto Maple Leafs game Tuesday night, singer Michelle Madeira was partway through The Star-Spangled Banner when her mic cut out. She continued singing, but of course, the crowd couldnt hear her. Without missing a beat, the entire crowd picked up where Madeira left off, completing the U.S. national anthem in unison.
Fans kept up the enthusiasm and sang O Canada right after.
See? Hockey fans arent just drunken and rowdy and prone to fighting. Theyre also sometimes really awesome.

Very cool, eh?
Canadians are great, they are here amongst us in FLA. They have their winter homes here along with Brits and Germans. My wife who worked in retail, only had issues with the French Speaking Canadians.
Sometimes I think there is more sentiment today for the American Ideal as once espoused by the citizens of the United States, among Canadians, than among their neighbors to the south. Canada as a whole, who from time to time have to reprove the occupants of the territory once known as “the United States of America”, seems to have a firmer grasp of personal liberties and personal responsibility than any of the “blue” states and districts found in their nearest neighbor and largest trading partner.
Having grown up in Detroit, right across the river from Windsor, Ontario, I”m ashamed to admit being unable to do the same if the mic failed during O Canada. It’s such a concise, proud anthem!
O Canada! Lyrics ...
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
“See? Hockey fans arent just drunken and rowdy and prone to fighting. Theyre also sometimes really awesome.”

Fixed it.
Those are the current lyrics. It has been revised and probably will be again. There is a French version as well but I’m not sure how many times it has been revised if at all. The version we sang when I was in school was slightly different to the one in use now. The current lefty push is to delete sons and replace it with an all inclusive word.
Very heartening to hear.I must admit that the only parts of Canada’s national anthem I know are “O Canada” and “we stand on guard for thee” and I only know them from watching the NHL.The fact that I usually hear the version that’s sung partially in English and partially in French.
This stinks! What’s a Tampa fan to do? Makes it difficult to keep hating the Leafs and their fans too. Go Bolts!
forgot to add “doesn’t help either” at the end.
Hockey being played in Tampa (or Miami,or Phoenix,or LA) is almost as silly as it being played in Equatorial Guinea.Hockey's a cold weather sport.
Having to sing it twice in two different languages does make it longer and more difficult to remember. Imagine having to sing the USA Anthem in Spanish too. Tough, come to think of it, it starts out with “Jose can you see ...”
Quebecois. Perpetually PO'ed. Always with the chip on the shoulder. The city people at least. Country Quebecois are different much as country people in France are, essentially French rednecks and therefore decent folk if you can understand them, lol.
Yah, I too noticed she had to close an otherwise fine article with a snarky little shot about hockey fans but let it pass.
Wish our "neighbors" to the south were so considerate.
I grew up in Windsor Ont. been to a lot of Wings games.......lifelong Leafs fan, lucky me.:)
My personal Saturday night routine is do laundry, eat seafood and watch the hockey game on NHL Network. Seems like the Canada crowd does sign their anthem with a little more zest than we see here.
Just one more reason for me to find a nice Canadian man who wants to move to Texas and enjoy Dallas Stars hockey with me :) I’ve always liked our neighbors to the North. Everyone I’ve encountered has been exceptionally nice.
