Keith Ellison: No mandate for GOP; electorate ‘has a lot of complicated things that it thinks’

Rep. Keith Ellison, Minnesota Democrat, said Tuesday that Republicans don’t have a mandate after a midterm election cycle in which they took back control of the Senate and picked up about a dozen seats in the House — pointing to low voter turnout and successful ballot initiatives on raising the minimum wage as evidence of a nuanced electorate.

Appearing on CNN’s “New Day,” Mr. Ellison was responding to comments from Sen. Mike Lee, Utah Republican, that the American people have spoken and President Obama can listen to them on issues like immigration.

“Well, you know, we had a 72-year low in voter turnout — 36 percent of the American public turned out [to] vote — I don’t really call that a mandate,” Mr. Ellison said. “What does Senator Lee say about the fact that in several states things that are progressive policies like increasing the minimum wage won and the Democrat didn’t?”

Mr. Ellison said he supports Mr. Obama’s taking unilateral action on immigration, something many Republicans are warning the president against.

“The fact is the electorate has a lot of complicated things that it thinks, but the fact is is that there’s no mandate here but what there is is obstruction and stymieing from Republicans and the president should move forward for the betterment of the nation,” Mr. Ellison said.

Quote: ““The fact is the electorate has a lot of complicated things that it thinks. . .”

In other words, the electorate is too stupid to have possibly understood the issues and was easily duped into supporting the Republicans.

Ellison is one of the many co-conspirators in crimes against the Constitution and the Rule of Law. The great majority of Citizens would like him to resign.

what there is is obstruction and stymieing from Republicans and the president should move forward for the betterment of the party,” Mr. Ellison said.

Well, that’s it isn’t it? It’s always the agenda,
and the agenda is the revolution.

Considering that Keith Ellison is probably the only openly practicing Muslim in the House of Representatives, and as such has no need to show any respect to the Creator that inspired the formation of the set of principles known as “the United States of America”, then there is no support for the Republican party that he can see.

Pretty much an instance of willful blindness and/or ignorance.

Is he claiming that the two-thirds of eligible people who didn’t vote would’ve all voted Democrat had they made it to the polls?

The Democrat mid-term beat down was unprecedented. Our mandate is perfectly clear. It is even more clear that it doesn’t represent a mandate for Obama to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

Suspend the grammy awards too since listening audiences are way way down.

That they couldn’t bring themselves to vote for you despite your pandering should tell you all you need to know about how they actually feel about you.

36 percent of the American public turned out [to] vote

If a DemocRAT said that the sky is blue...I would go outside to check.

If a Rat says there was only 36% turn out nationwide, I would check that too. It smells like a lie from the Left.

just like in 2001 after 9/11 when the Repubs won it all, but you would never have known it by the way Bush acted - Mr. Kumbaya. I imagine the low turnout this time had something to do with people believing that it’s a waste of time, plus no ACORN to pay people to go vote.

So in Ellison’s little world, low turnout invalidates the election victories of the Republicans, but the ballot initiative victories are the true will of the electorate? Nice cherry picking, there, Ellison.
