A museum in Lynden, Wash. has decided to return 11 World World II-era rifles to their owners because of a state law passed earlier this month that requires background checks on gun transfers.
The Lynden Pioneer Museum will comply with the law, Initiative 594, rather than fight it, The Bellingham Herald reports.
The museums exhibit, Over the Beach: The WWII Pacific Theater, had the 11 rifles on display along with photographs and journals from the era as well as military vehicles and radios.
It will continue until May 1, but without the guns.
The museum will be returning these guns to their owners because as of Dec 4th, we would be in violation of the law if we had loaned firearms that had not undergone the background check procedure, reads the museums website. Nor would we be able to return those firearms unless the owners completed the back ground check procedure.

I’d happily take them off their hands. I wouldn’t even charge them much for taking delivery of them! ;^p
Yes, this I-594 should be thrown out by the courts.
Ping-a-lingy.
Although it doesn’t seem it on the surface, the effect of this is to further chip away at the tools available to teach our young American history.
It is well known that inherent in the left’s agenda for the USA is to erase and/or rewrite American history.
Just another hit on our military.
More unintended consequences of laws passed by emotional fools.
It is intentional -- No "unintended"
Yeah I know it is a stupid, unconstitutional law, but you have to wonder what the Museum staff did to fail a background check.
A stupid law passed by a bunch of useless pieces of human garbage.
They didn’t fail a background check. They just don’t want to have to be subjected to it.
Yet another example why LIBs need to never be given any position of responsibility or authority...ever...at any level.
The weapons did not belong to the Museum. They were on loan for display from citizens in the community. Under the new law in WA. state, this could have been considered a violation without the required background checks.
Possibly subject to seizure, and never returned to the rightful owners?
