Herod the Great had 10 wives and a number of concubines. Polygamy was common enough in mid-eastern countries, Egypt, Persia, and in boundaries between those cultures and in commercial centers that included people from those cultures. I understand that while many had one wife that slaves/concubines were not recognized as wives, but that they did exist.
And when did they have time for war?

I have spouted that same belief. Better crops and good fortunes is the same as “not to be burdened by a child”. People still bow to the same idols - just different names.

That’s a very interesting insight which I have not really thought about before.
I grew up around many Jewish kids and their families.
In contrast, I come from a deeply religious Lutheran background.
What is most striking is the possible paradox that, by my experience, American Jews are the most passionate political advocates (always for the Left) I know.
