Again, caving into the nice Muslims instead of going on the offensive. If they think this is going to make them less radical, they’re wrong. Signs of weakness just encourage them.

More from the AP:

The U.S. military's European Command said Tuesday it has ordered its troops to avoid wearing their uniforms when off base, and to ensure the security settings and geolocation functions on their social media pages aren't "overly revealing."

EUCOM spokesman Navy Capt. Greg Hicks would not say what prompted the new directive for the roughly 70,000 U.S. personnel serving in Europe. The order, issued Nov. 10, comes after high-profile attacks on soldiers of American allies Britain and Canada in their home countries.

I was in Germany for a couple of years back in the 60’s. I never wore a uniform off post.

Because the hair cut won’t give it away.

OK, but wouldn’t the haircut give them away?

For one thing. Another is the shoes.

When my husband was a young Marine overseas he said that the local girls would check to see if his name was on his his t-shirt. Despite wearing "civies," the haircut and t-shirt gave him away almost every time. The one exception...I thought he was cute. He's outside right now cutting more wood for our stove.

Not particularly new. In the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s only E-7 and above were permitted to wear uniforms off base, even at home in the good ole USA. We certainly were not permitted to do so at forward bases.

And the fact they will be the only ones not wearing logo’s on their clothes or wearing baseball caps. . .seriously. . .

I am ok with that move. A lone or one or two guys in uniform and unarmed make an easy target for cowards.

No limit on wearing uniforms off-base in the US in the 80’s, 90’s. . .perhaps you are referring to a local base commanders decision and in that case, that ‘order’ would only be applicable to those asigned to his base and in the local area.

Well, since everyone lives off post now, that’s a real problem. The “post” is just a office building with a fence around it. While the quarters are 50 feet away with no fence around it.

Tell that to our SWAT teams and local police.

Yup. If you're aware at all, it's EASY to tell the Americans.

Baloney - more likely local regulation or regulated by service. There were no such limitations in the Wiesbaden Military Community (included AF and Army) of central Germany in 1978-81. This time period included the heyday of the Red Brigades that had a bomb found outside a local military community center near the Wiesbaden Casino-Spa. Military personnel could be observed during the regular duty day, especially at lunch, at various restaurants on the economy. In the evening, it was all civilian clothes, though.

If our people are THAT unpopular among the populations they are there to protect, perhaps those populations no longer perceive that we are there to protect them. If that is the case, the time has already arrived to bring them home.

Not at any Air Force, Army, or Navy installations I was ever at.

I strongly suspect this is protection against moozies in the European countries who are now stabbing individual targets, reference the British soldier hacked to death on a public street near his barracks in 2013(Fusilier Drummer Lee Rigby http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Lee_Rigby). (See also the recent stabbing in the neck of a Jewish man in Antwerp; 5 Jewish people attacked with axes in a synagogue in Jerusalem today!) The imans are actively promoting armed attacks against Western individuals.

Makes since to reduce the enemies ability to locate a target by clothing. Just wish our military were allowed to carry weapons—at least on their bases!!!!
