Chaplain Says Officials Ordered Him To Cover Christian Symbols In VA Chapel
Truth or Fiction ^ | summer of 2014 | Staff

The Truth: According to the website for the Oscar G Johnson Medical Center Veterans Affairs hospital in Iron Mountain, Michigan, the chapel is described as "non-denominational, although weekly Protestant and Catholic services are scheduled there "on a regular basis." The hospital was told that Christian symbols, statues and religious items inside the chapel were no longer permitted. This according to a June 3, 2014, article by Christian Today.

The article said that the chapel "was found in non-compliance with a 2008 federal regulation that mandates that the house of worship be nonsectarian." In order to comply with the regulation statues, crucifix and an altar "were encircled with a curtain at the Iron Mountain chapel after an inspection by the National Chaplain Center discovered the unauthorized items. "

I went to the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain today on business. While there I stopped at the Chapel and found pinky-purple curtains with mesh at the top, covering the altar. (You know the type. They use them between sick patients in the hospital). I stopped in my tracks, shocked at what I saw. I peeked behind the curtain, and found what used to be the welcoming part of the chapel, the Cross, a picture of Jesus, and other Christian icons familiar to the majority of Americans. I found Chaplain Bob Mueller, to ask what the meaning was of this change. This is what he told me. “A couple of months ago, an order came down from Washington DC to cover all things associated with Christianity in the VA. Their solution is to cover everything in all the VA Chapels across the country.” Chaplain Bob went on to say, “A few weeks ago an official from the Madison VA came down here to tell me to ‘stop talking about Jesus, and to stop reading Scripture out loud.’” Chaplain Bob also said that the rest of the Obama plan is to send more curtains to cover the rest of the stained glass windows, because there are Christian symbols on the stained glass. These photos reveal future plans by the White House. To use the same phrase President Obama so ‘eloquently’ used concerning other matters at the VA, ‘I’m mad as hell…” As Americans, we need to stand together to stop this insanity.

First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

When did our congress ever address such an abolition of The First Amendment to our Constitution?

Congress didn’t make such a law; the unelected bureaucrats know they have a chief executive who has no respect for ‘the law’, the Congress, or anything except His Imperial Won-ness.

In the military, we generally had chapels that were designated for other religions. Therefore, those that were primarily for protestant/Catholic use were free to keep their crosses, altar cloths, etc., in view throughout the week.

In general, the rule that chapels are considered non-sectarian is true in the military, but there are also a number of chapels on most military installations, so having them designated for particular use would not be a burden but instead it would be a benefit.

Have you any idea of who these " unelected bureaucrats" might be? Do you know if there are Mosques or 'prayer rooms' for those of the Islamic faith?

It’s necessary to take out a permit to practice the First Amendment.

I wear a cross on many outfits including every suit jacket. I have not been asked yet to cover it but anticipate that happening in the future. Still wondering how I will react. Thinking of several passive-aggressive responses.

Obama is skating on thin ice.

It began when he took his very first presidential Oath of Office.

It is a sacred oath which actually forces God to be a prime witness.

God cannot be a witness to a lie without repercussions taking place.

Obama cursed himself on that day.

God will demand justice.

Pick ‘em. It has to have filtered down through the VA.

Obama became president in January, 2009.

This is the work of termites acting through the courts. The courts are full of supposedly educated judges, few of whom can read very well. The Constitution says that the federal government shall not institute an “established church.” That means (as it did when the Constitution was adopted) an official, tax-supported church. It does NOT mean that religion should be abolished from national life. It doesn’t even say that this provision applies to the States: that was “interpreted” into judicial practice by inflating the clear intentions of the 14th Amendment.

Somehow the Founders forgot to write into the Constitution a provision for the contingency of having ignorant, insane, or under-handed judges.

It is a non-sectarian chapel, and I didn’t hear anything about them not being able to display Christian symbols during their services. Just when they weren’t using it and other sects might be.
