Investigative reporter Emily Miller, who literally wrote the book on gun rights in our nation’s capitol (see Emily Gets Her Gun), who is now a reporter with My Fox DC, attempts to obtain a permit to carry in Washington and the results are about what was expected.
What she found (and what most people already assumed) is that it’s pretty much impossible to get a permit to carry in DC. DC is currently a “may issue” district, which means you must prove you need a permit and it’s up to the authorities to decide if that need is legit.
Miller tried to argue that since she lives, works, and travels in one of the highest violent crime areas in the country (Washington DC) that she needs a permit. However, the officer she spoke with said that wasn’t good enough.

Of course, you being able to defend your own life is not a good enough reason. Your government DOESN’T CARE IF YOU DIE. Why should they? They can always import more peasants, from third world countries. And the new ones won’t bitch so much about freedom.

Well, when the thugs are kicking-in my door, I’ll apply for my permit.
.. “ the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be Infringed”- why are we playing along with this unAmerican regulation and litigation game? This only serves to weaken our rights - no government office has any authority to issue or require any gun licenses or permits from any American.
Now its the DHS, EPA, TSA, are coming for us. :-)

If the threat has to be imminent, you’ll never get the permit approved in time.
When denied a permit, ask the cop for the correct spelling on his last name. When he asks why, tell him you want your heirs to know who to sue when you are killed due to not being allowed to exercise your 2nd Amendment Right.

Wrong, it’s to protect us agaist enemies, “foreign and domestic” as a country or individuals. We should be prepared for when the “British are Coming” before the bombs are falling and the tanks are in the street and the skies are full of parachutes, or before you’re being mugged on the street or having your home invaded. When these things happen it’s a little late to get a permit, register and buy a firearm and become proficient with it and stockpile ammo.
In California, it’s guaranteed they’re coming. A recent ballot proposition (47) passed, providing for the state to open the front gates of the prisons to all kinds of criminals, on the basis that their most recent conviction (regardless of any violent criminal history before it) was “minor.” It’s in addition to a federal judge’s order for the state to open up the prisons for similar types due to overcrowding.
