No wonder Arkansas is turning Republican.
Democratic Arkansas governor Mike Beebe decided to wrap up his second term by pardoning his own son for a drug offense. Forced out by term limits, Beebe had been discussed as a potential Dem presidential candidate in the New York Times, but he finally made national headlines for the wrong reason.
Not content to simply pardon his son, Beebe went through the farce of releasing his son’s request for a “second chance” letter, as if the son of an Arkansas governor needs a second chance or has to write a letter to his father asking for a pardon.
Beebe had maintained reasonably good popularity ratings, and considering how badly Dems had lost the south, the party might have considered him, but this act of blatant corruption will end any shot he had at that.
Not that calling opponents of subsidies for wind towers “Un-American” won him any national points.
I’m not a bit surprised. He’s just following his leader Obola’s example in sheer unadulterated obnoxious arrogance. He probably wouldn’t ever believe that this would harm his chances for higher office in the rat party.
He’s taking all he can get on the way out. Count the silver in the governor’s mansion.
I agree that this was not a good thing to do but frankly I can understand. Probably his son is more important to him than his career.
Wait until Mr. Obama pardons every “person of color” in prison, jail, probation or parole.
Laws are for the little people don’t you know....
Just as likely, he knows that it won’t hurt his chances, whatever they may be otherwise, with the party of criminals.
I didn’t see in the article how serious of a drug conviction it was. Was it just a minor misdemeanor pot bust that was embarassing to have on his record or a major felony drug conviction for which he did or is doing time?
Wonder how much that little ‘favor’ cost Junior?
Does Greenfield not know strategy? We need this guy to run.
Au contraire! It's a resume enhancement!..............
Presidents cannot pardon people in state prisons, only federal ones.............
Watch him. When have rules stopped him in the past?
He can ‘pardon’ whomever he likes, but that doesn’t mean the states have to let them out...........
This governor is going to personalize it in his campaign by playing on people’s feelings ...
He’ll ask the voters — “Wouldn’t you do the same thing if it were your own son or daughter?”
This governor is going to personalize it in his campaign by playing on peoples feelings ...
Hell ask the voters Wouldnt you do the same thing if it were your own son or daughter?
They’ll be branded as “Bull Connor” type racists if they don’t go along with it. Remember who we’re dealing with here.
In just a very few years no one will remember who ‘Bull Conner’ was.................
I doubt that this guy’s kid would be doing time for pot possession.....
