Anti-Military Anthem Played at ´Concert for Valor´
Weekly Standard ^ | 11/11/14 | Ethan Epstein

Who would have thought that that Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl, and Zac Brown, accomplished musicians all, would be so, well, tone-deaf? But how else to explain their choice of song—Creedence Clearwater´s famously anti-war anthem “Fortunate Son”—at the ostensibly pro-military “Concert for Valor” this evening on the National Mall? The song, not to put too fine a point on it, is an anti-war screed, taking shots at "the red white and blue." It was a particularly terrible choice given that Fortunate Son is, moreover, an anti-draft song, and this concert was largely organized to honor those who volunteered to fight in

Yeah, but I’d like to point out that an awful lot of us “military sons” volunteered and were in uniform when CCR was bleating this. Screw ‘em.

“Unless there was actually someone there from the Wehrmacht.”

I wouldn’t rule it out. About twenty years ago a riding buddy and I stopped at a bar and grill and an older gentleman with a German accent noticed the BMW emblems on our jackets. He commented that years ago he had had a BMW. We asked him if he still had it. He smiled and told us that he hadn’t seen it since he surrendered.

Kid Rock is another solid military supporter. He and Operation FINALLY HOME paid for a home for a disabled vet here in Michigan a while back.

I knew when springsteen was on the agenda it was what people thought it would be. He is the singing equivalent of michael moore.

There was a time when I was living with a guy and his sister and her friend’s sister (who eventually became my roommate’s wife) would come over and get drunk outside by a firepit and blast Springsteen out an open window letting out all the AC.

I was once asked if I wanted to go to a Springsteen concert and I declined... and then they wanted to know why... Oh boy did I tell them why... “Nope, too Communist... but you guys go have a fun time”

CCR’s music was popular at the time with those serving in Vietnam.

“Springsteen at a concert for veterans? Who the hell made that decision?”

My thought exactly! I was amazed when I heard Springsteen would be at this concert. There are many patriotic musicians....why was Springsteen chosen???

.. letting out all the AC.

And that is the typical libtard mindset, in a nutshell.

I commanded a rifle company in Vietnam in 1971. I was Regular Army as was my First Sergeant (a veteran of WWII, Korea, and on his 3d RVN tour). Other Regular Army volunteers was one of my platoon leaders and one of the platoon sergeants. All the rest were draftees. There were a few bad soldiers among them, but bad soldiers didn’t fare well in that environment.

You get it! He would put those siezure-inducing CFLs in all the sockets in the house and then leave every light in the house on. Friday and Saturday nights he would have 2 television sets and a desktop computer running, then pass out with all the lights and the tube amp going. Every weekend. The most brilliant move, however, was opening the doors from the house to the sunporch with the jalousie windows and firing up the central air conditioning to cool the sunporch in the middle of the day.

“I was just at a Vet Day parade where they put Anzio and D-Day vets in German cars and veterans of the South Pacific in Japanese cars to drive the parade route.
It can be looked at in a different way.

Our enemies from WWII have now been converted into some of our best allies. Two totalitarian regimes have been converted into democracies with free market economies that are a boon to the world.”

Sure. A woman I work for who’s family died in Sachsenhausen drives her Mercedes to watch films about the holocaust. However, it took a long, long time for my father to accept anything Japanese after his experience in WWII and I know he was not the exception. I think it is assuming to place a vet of the ETO in “THe People’s Car” aka a Volkwagen.

Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” is hardly a pro vet song.

My old boss who was a Bataan Death March survivor told me that after nearly forty years, every time he saw an Asian approach him he would break out in a cold sweat. All these men paid a huge price for their country.

I wonder how these men would want us to honor their sacrifices??
