In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
~~Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae ~~

County Galway and County Kerry on my mother's side - Also Dublin on that side. One Scot at the 4g's level - a veteran of the Revolution.
Having difficulty with the origin of my paternal ancestors - all definitely from Ireland, but their names - Mitchell, Sheehan, Brennan, Rafferty, Walsh, Leary - are so common - or I should say, so widely distributed - that it's difficult to find anything certain on the other side.

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

My mother was a Sullivan - Dalcassian. There is a coldness in my family - it comes from the Dalcassians. They were the Bishop-Kings of the Southern Half in the first millennium.
The other half of my Mother's family was Gavins - salt of the earth , loving and forgiving people. All gone now, with the exception of one of my cousins.

Mom is the only one left of that generation in my family. She’s 88 years old.
Some great history there! :-)
