New York Hospitals bleed cash as they fight Ebola

The 10 hospitals designated by New York state to serve Ebola patients continue to rack up preparation or treatment costs.

Bellevue Hospital Center, where Dr. Craig Spencer, New York City's only Ebola patient, is being treated, produces several 55-gallon drums of Ebola-related medical waste per day, said Reuvan Pasternak, chief executive of Stony Brook University Hospital, citing a conference call among hospital officials when the procedure was discussed. Other sources were briefed that Bellevue is spending $100,000 daily on waste treatment.

"It's a huge cost," Dr. Pasternak said of waste disposal. "It's much more substantial than one would think."

A Bellevue spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment.

The White House announced almost $15 million in possible Ebola funding for New York last week. The Centers for Disease Control and prevention are requesting $7.13 million to support the state's response to Ebola through an existing federal program that funds public health departments, the Public Health Emergency Preparedness initiative, which has 62 current awardees in New York state. The federal Health and Human Services agency also is requesting $2.5 million for New York for "direct support to no less than one Ebola treatment center in the state." The agency also asked for $4.89 million to fund the state's existing Hospital Preparedness Program awardees "to support overall health system preparedness and response for Ebola. Funding will be allocated to awardees by formula."

Before the funding was announced, hospitals were frustrated in their efforts to secure aid. "If you ask Albany, they'll say, 'Washington'; if you ask Washington, they'll say, 'Albany,' " Dr. Pasternak said. "It's just been the most vague statements that there are increased costs and we'll have to talk about it later."

I’m sure overloading the system so as to leave multitudes to die on the streets is all in the plan. The Dems thought they had it all planned out.

One problem - America has a history of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

The entire life of the Ø regime is one of constant spending on extraneous things... it’s as if there is a background agenda item to collapse the dollar. Starting with the $787 B stimulus, to ‘cash for clunkers’, to repaving perfectly-fine roads, to allowing ebola into the country so that our taxes pay a half-mil per patient.

More reality on Ebolagate released by the left wing mediots after the midterm elections. Shades of shielding what happened at Benghazi will keep popping up. Most will be buried in late Friday and Saturday new drops.

Yeah, it's a gangsta operation. Hospital rooms are the most expensive hotels you can ever stay at. Multi-thousand dollar rooms, per night. So barrels of waste take up space. They take the real cost of something and inflate it by one hundred times, easily.

...Bellevue Hospital Center, where Dr. Craig Spencer, New York City's only Ebola patient, is being treated, produces several 55-gallon drums of Ebola-related medical waste per day...

Questions:
Does this make sense?
Can anyone explain how one person with Ebola,
can produce SEVERAL 55 gallon drums of waste per day?
