WH: US-China visa deal a 'game-changer' [The next "immigrant" wave?]

A new deal dramatically extending the length of visas for individuals traveling between the U.S. and China will be a “game-changer” for relations between Washington and Beijing, the White House said Monday.

The U.S. and China will now issue short-term tourist and business visas that are valid for up to 10 years. Students traveling between the two countries will now be granted visas lasting five years. Previously, all three types had been valid only for a single year.

“In terms of the U.S.-China bilateral relationship, this is a game-changer,” said National Security Council Senior Director for Asian Affairs Evan Medeiros.

A senior administration official described the pact as “a really big win” that could lead to “hundreds of thousands of additional U.S. jobs” thanks to increased Chinese tourism.

According to the White House, some 100 million Chinese tourists travel internationally each year, but only 1.8 million come to the U.S. — partially because of the arduous visa requirements. President Obama said Monday he expected travel to as much as quadruple under the new agreement.

Oh good grief. Ten years on a tourist visa. If you are here 10 years you have moved here.

With our dumbed-down population, I guess those applying for this visa deal can do the jobs Americans can’t.

And that is what Obama believes we deserve.

Who needs legislators when you have executive orders and Supreme Judicial rulers who will legislate for us.

“......White House officials have been more optimistic about the deal since last week’s U.S. elections. Republicans, who tend to favor trade deals, won control of both chambers of Congress, making it more likely Obama can secure up-or-down approval for a final vote on the deal. That prospect was a rare silver lining for Obama in an election was disastrous for Obama’s party and diminished his stature as he headed to Asia.....”

All of our immigration and tourism laws should be retaliatory.

In other words we should simply reflect back whatever another country's laws are regarding our citizens.

That way there can be no complaints, and in general, would be a lot tougher than they are now.

If China allows our citizens 10 years, we should allow the same.

What is Obama doing? Chinese college grads with visas for six years after college graduation give the tech industry the cheap labor visas they want. The RINOs won't stop it, because they're bought and paid for. This will cause upper middle class US citizens to be starved of jobs.

Besides which, we will have no secrets from China anymore. We'll be a cheap labor nation across the board. We could be impacted if China becomes a source of terrorists.

I hope that the DC crowd wakes up and doesn't allow this.

These are short-term (30 to 90 days at a time), re-entry visas that are good for ten years. They’re not green cards; the holder of a re-entry visa cannot stay as long he likes and he cannot legally obtain employment.

Chinese tourism and business travel are not a problem, and there’s no upside to making the expensive and inconvenient visa application process an annual requirement for visitors.

This is not a bad development. It just removes an unnecessary and expensive hassle for legitimate international travelers. If a Chinese wanted to overstay his 30-90 day visa limit, he could do it with a one-year visa just as easily as he could with a ten-year visa.

The U.S. and China will now issue "short-term" tourist and business visas that are valid for up to 10 years

Another guest worker program in the making. Then people wonder why citizens don't go for the fields where favor & preference is given in some form to all their competitors.

“In terms of the U.S.-China bilateral relationship, this is a game-changer,” said National Security Council Senior Director for Asian Affairs Evan Medeiros.

...for plumbing new depths in contempt shown for US citizens?

This morning, FOX had some video of OSatan getting off the plane in China. Did anyone notice that clothing he had on? He looked like a pimp. All that was missing was the pimp hat.

Obama is importing communism. US citizens no longer are going to have a voice in their own country.

I strongly disagree.

China does not allow resident visas for Americans, unless they have Chinese blood.

No such requirement is in effect, for us.

The Chinese / American visas are completely inappropriate. Just as are the business requirements in China.

America is not standing up for American rights.

Is the visa good for 10 continuous years, or is it a ten year authorization to enter and leave for shorter periods of time?

I was in CHina a couple of years ago. My visa was good for a year, but I had to leave after 30 days and then return for another chunk of time (side trip to Hong Kong met the requirement). I could not have stayed nonstop for a full year on that tourist visa.

You underestimate the resourcefulness devoted to guest worker fraud.

That, and the bi-directional nature doesn’t really serve (non-Chinese) US citizens as much as it serves those already involved with China.
