I don’t recall anyone worshipping Kerry although the man himself tried to make that happen.
I recall that when Patreus was heading to the capital to report to congress how the war was going, he was mocked and ridiculed and called “General Betray-us.” Pelosi et. al. never apologized for their disgraceful behavior. So I am shocked to hera that Salon thinks the US is naturally excessively worshipful of soldiers - at a time when I thought members of the military seldom get the recognition they deserve.
In a perfect world he would be dropped in to Raqaa and be left behind by those he refuses to “worship”..

Actually, I agree with him to a certain extent. The word “hero” is given to anyone who does something out of the ordinary today. Not every soldier in battle is a hero. Not every cop in a patrol car is a hero. Not every fireman who puts out a fire is a hero.
Even the guy who stops a purse thief is not a hero.
There are few true heroes in this world. Most people who do the right thing don’t want to be called heroes. It’s nice to acknowledge their deeds but the term hero has been watered down to the point where teachers are being called heroes
