Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) hopes to confirm 50 of President Obamas nominees and move an omnibus spending bill in a last hurrah before Democrats give up power in the Senate.
The nominees are part of a packed lame-duck schedule that Reid is furiously planning, and that will be a topic at Fridays White House lunch meeting between Obama and congressional leaders.
Reid also wants to move a package of expiring tax provisions, the annual Defense Department authorization bill and an extension of a tax moratorium on Internet purchases in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
That will be a challenge not only because of the tight schedule, but because of expected clashes between Democrats over what should be prioritized before Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) takes over the Senates agenda in January.
For example, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who is about to lose his chairmanship, is pushing for consideration of a bill reforming the National Security Agency despite opposition from other Democrats.

Obstruct, obstruct, obstruct!
If anyone thought this feckless, pea-brained, mean-spirited, power-mad, little ‘man’ was going to go quietly, they were a fool.
I would filibuster everything - even motions for National Butter Day. Nothing to move between now and Jan 05.
They’ll ram through as many as possible. Democrats are pathological scorched earthers.
This should prove an interesting time to see if the Repubs have grown a set...even those in the lame duck congress. It will portend things to come.
If the Republicans had any bawls (which they don’t) they would essentially shut down the senate between now and the time they take over. The minority party in the Senate has a lot of power, even without the filibuster, they can make endless quorum calls and demand voice votes on ever minor procedural matter, they can put “holds” on judicial appointees from their home states, they can slow walk committees. If they really tried they could see NOTHING gets done between now and January.... Unfortunately, my guess is they will let all Obama’s pending nominees through without a peep and maybe even pass a few democrat leaning bills in the lameduck session, just to make the liberal media happy and prove they can “get along” and “work together” with Obama and the democrats.
Gee - whatever happened to “working together”
Let's give Harry a brand new office ....in the Capitol's sub-basement, next to the furnace. Harry'll just love his brand-new cardboard desk (some assembly required).
Although I hear phone service isn't hooked up down there yet. Too bad. Harry can always use smoke signals (from the handy furnace) to communicate.
And give 'ol Harry a comfortable desk chair---complete w/ comfy head and foot rests.......and tell him not to worry about all those silly electrical switches lying around.
Harry's new chair....with our compliments.
And that's just the GOPe Senators.....
This should prove an interesting time to see if the Repubs have grown a set...

I think we already know the answer to that. They are weak.
Its time to stop the talking and start producing. We want ACTION and RESULTS. Anything short of that is a waste of time.
Filibuster EVERYTHING ....
Hey Harry. Just remember, payback can be a bitch. You’re not in a position to behave any way you want anymore.
Reid executed a scorched earth policy during his reign. I’d serve the same right back at ‘em.
amen
no mercy, no quarter
I can only hope that apparition I see, the ghost of Trent Lott is not lurking around
The house has to pass anything done by a dem senate.
The only thing they can “force” are appointments.
They will get nothing done.
A Freeper can dream can't he? :)
Flabbergast this clown by having teams of movers, designers and others sent to his “current” office every day m, throughout the day.
This is where Ted and Rand will begin to shine brighter.
Look for some of the hold-over dems to take a stance against dingy harry’s tactics.
The system begs for change to end “Lame Duck” sessions.
Congress and the Senate should remain adjorned for two weeks after the election to effect a transition.
At the end of the two weeks new members should be sworn in and the new session of congress begins.
Presidents should make an immediate transition as soon as election results are certified.
In the time period between the election and certification the outgoing president should be restricted by law to acting only on issues of an emergency nature.
I know it is a little off the subject, but I wonder just how many of the “retired” members of both the House & Senate will just blow off the last 30 days or so of their term. Maybe with press releases informing everyone about a sudden cold, flu or maybe family emergency or some such.
