HuffPo: The Democratic Route to Senate Control in 2016 (uh huh)
Huffington Post ^ | 11/6/2014 | Ryan Grim

Posted on 11/06/2014 6:16:14 AM PST by tellw

Only 10 Senate Democrats are up for re-election in 2016, the residual benefit of the shellacking they took in 2010 when tea party Republicans swept into office. The only two challenges Democrats likely will face will be defending Michael Bennet's seat in Colorado and Reid's in Nevada. In a presidential year, Bennet, who managed to survive in 2010, will be the favorite. Reid may be the most vulnerable, but he is a tenacious campaigner and in the past pulled off re-election in the face of stiff odds.

“The only two challenges Democrats likely will face will be defending Michael Bennet’s seat in Colorado and Reid’s in Nevada..”

Tell that to the Democrat governor-elect of both Massachusetts and Maryland.

Oh wait.

Okay, so that’s how they maintain the [new] status quo... 54 to 46. Okay, I get it... Repubs won’t madke any big 2016 gains, won’t be reaching 60. But, how will the ‘Rats turn 4 seats from red back to communist (I’m redefining the word ‘blue’. for now on, something that used to be ‘blue’ is ‘communist’)

If this is what you need to tell yourself to keep yourself from jumping off the bridge, Ryan, then go for it.

These choices could also affect the top of the ticket, whether it's Hillary Clinton or another Democrat.

Oh, please, please, please run Hilary, or better yet, Elizabeth Warren.

If the 'pubs put up a real conservative, 2016 might be a Reaganesque type landslide.

Reid is a corrupt as they come and you can bet he will pull out all the stops necessary to keep his spot in Washington. (One could wish him ill health but that would not be Christian like, sorry I mentioned it).

Reading the comments at the end of the article.......most seem to believe the Dems in power didn’t go far enough to the Left. Bwahahahaha! They are brain dead Obamabots at the HuffPo.

With a 9 going on 10 seat pick up by the GOP Dingy Harry is going to be relegated to the Senate cheap seats just like Pelosi. Being minority leader means always losing the vote.

They do have a point in that the “math” favors the ‘rats as much in 2016 as it favored the GOP in 2014.

Ryan may want to read this from someone on his own side:

http://www.vox.com/2014/11/5/7159069/senate-2016-elections-democrats

The reason the left is flipping out so much is most of them understand the reality that they have lost the Legislative branch for the next 4 years. So even if they manage to drag Hillary’s tired old bones across the finish line in 2016 she’s going to be forced to deal with a hostile Senate and House.

And actually Monica Crowley made one of the best observations of the evening. The Democrats are in real trouble in 2016 because they are going to lack one key ingredient... Obama.

Obama was great at getting the Obama brand elected. That branding is not going to help Clinton in any way. The Obama brand was able to bring together this coalition of disgruntled leftists in a way Clinton simply cannot do. And unlike Obama during his 1st run, she has an extensive track record she will have to defend with independents, and a LOT of women simply don’t like her. And as someone who was actually inside the Obama administration she’s going to have an extremely difficult time separating herself from that because clearly the Republican playbook will be to label her as the 3rd term of Obama.

Of course the Dems will try to play the War on Women card again, but there’s a simple way around that. Who ever wins the party nomination to run against Clinton should quickly name Susana Martinez as their Vice Presidential running mate. Kills that meme dead.

What many activists are hoping is that the caucus will take note that progressive issues like the minimum wage, reproductive rights and criminal justice reform won on Tuesday, even though many Democratic candidates did not.

Where does this notion come from? From what I could see, this progressive nonsense went nowhere with voters. Certainly the math is in the Democrats favor the next time around. But, if they adopt the strategy laid out here, they are likely to be disappointed. They are advocating rolling out the loons that lost on Tuesday. If that's their plan, bring it on, even with the usual leftie suspects that show up in Presidential years, a loser is still usually a loser.

Of course there will be a massive turnout in 2016, but I don’t think the blacks will turn out in mass for her. She will get more conservatives to vote than anyone else can. That will help the GOP in the house and senate in my opinion.

The Rats will only have a shot at removing Kirk (IL) and Toomey (PA). That’s it.

The GOP will have a shot at removing Bennet(CO) and most likely Reid(NV).

That is, Hillary will not get the same support the blacks gave Obama. She will get the GOP to vote.

I predict that Bennet (CO) will lose in 2016. I don’t know who will run against him, but I am pretty sure that he is toast.

I figured MooseChelle Obama was a slam dunk for the Illinois Senate seat in 2016 (using the Hillary playbook) but now I’m not so sure.
